Setting Midi Channel in Staff View

I'm using the Staff view to insert midi notes... which is working great for track 1... but on the 2nd track, which I want the instruments to be different, (Midi Track 2 instead of Midi track 1), when I insert a note on the staff, it sets it to track 1... so far all I've been able to do is right click on each and every note after entry and change it to track 2. Is there a way in MC6 to set the default midi track you want the note to be? (Like how you can set the default duration).

Staff view simply lets you see the tracks in a staff view....and you can edit the notes in them.

You must set the instruments sound in the synth and also the channels used in order to keep them seperate..... using TTS you can have several midi tracks sending to different channels and in the TTS channels..... different from the midi source channels...... you select the different sounds and assign them to the track outputs.  

Look on my website under the music pages and there is a tutorial there on how to do this.  I now use TTS rarely. I use Sound center and other synths but they are one instrument per instance. 

I think once you get the channels and patches figured out, you will be able to edit in staff with several tracks showing and it will work like you want. 

What I do, even after having been doing this for several years is to edit only one thing at a time. It makes it easier to keep everything straight.

I think the problem may be that you're not closing the track 1 staff view before opening the (supposed) track 2 staff view.
If you're working in the staff or PRV and don't close it, then go to the track view, click on another track and then the staff/PRV view, the already-open staff will appear instead of the new track staff.
That's been my experience with MC 2003, MC Pro 24 and SONAR Home Studio 6.
But, you can also have multiple tracks showing in the staff. Just click the Show Tracks icon and select the tracks you want to work on while holding down the computer keyboard's Ctrl key. Notes entered in one will be associated with that track unless your notes are too low or high in the staff, in which case they may play in the other track.
Older version instructions; MC 6 and X1 may have different ways to do that.
