Plugging bass into soundcard w X1

Hey Guys, Was recording acoustic instruments the other day and wanted to use an electric bass, but didn't have my amp. Is it possible to plug the bass into the soundcard and record? I have a Tascam 1600, and found all the mic outputs in the Sonar X1 audio track, but none of the guitar outs were displayed, though there were spots for them on the soundcard... Kind Thanks, Andy

    Use a DI box.

I thought the 1600 was a mixing desk?

Depends on the 1/4" inputs. On my interface, low-level signals such as guitar directs don't do so well and need a DI box or preamp. If you have something like a stompbox line amplifier that might do the trick.

All else is in doubt, so this is the truth I cling to.

Andy, cant you stick it through the ES6?.. i typically put a guitar through the pre-amp of the Fantom G6 so sure you can do similarly, or use a pedal and a line input..

I see your interface has an input for a guitar too.. and you should be looking for audio INPUTs in sonar, not outputs..:)

You said Tascam 1600 which is very different than the 1800 you linked to. One is a desktop mixer the other is an interface. If the 1800 has a high Z (Instrument) connection you could use that but at first glance it doesn't seem to have one for some strange reason. So yeah... snag a DI box, instrument dongle or a small interface with multi ins. Cheers.

Or you could try just sticking a nice mic in front of a an amp and hook it up to the 1800... OR if you have a bass amp with a direct out you could hook that to the 1800.

That's an 1800. You stated originally you have a 1600.

    Which one is it?

He has 1800 listed in his sig line specs so I assume that is what he has. I find it a little odd that Tascam has such wildly different products with such similar model names. Freaky.

    Absolutely Freaky.

Reading the spec of the 1800, it clearly states: (2x) 1/4" TRS LINE/GUITAR inputs on the front panel

Yeah, if you visit the link to Sweetwater, connections 9 and 10 can be used for either guitar or line in by pushing a little button to the side of the inputs.

    To quote your own link...

Two dedicated instrument lo-Z inputs are located on the front panel,

Connect your bass to one of those.

Reading the posts again, and also just read the US-1800 manual while eating my lunch, I think that Andy's problem is within Sonar itself, as he states in his first post that he can see the guitar/line inputs on the front panel.

So, in Sonar, the correct Input Channel should be selected, in this case, either 9 or 10. They will not be labelled specifically for guitar, I wouldn't have thought.

Andy, are you saying that you cannot see Inputs 9 and 10 in Sonar?
