Editing automation envelopes

I have foolishly edited out of sequence. After selecting a good take after three false starts of 5 min total, I began over- dubbing, got all of my acceptable overdub takes made, got all of my tracks EQ'd, reverbed, compressed, panned, and NOW decide I need to get the bad false starts out of the way. I learn good by doing bad. Is there any way to clip/split the automation envelopes and move them over concurrently with the tracks they were intended to automate? I have found I can't move a track without deleting the Envelope. Or is there an easier way to edit out all of the false starts and eliminate the remain five min. Of dead time?

You can copy only automation by selecting the track with automation on and then pressing ctrl+C. That should bring up the copy options box where you can deselect everything except automation.

Then paste that onto the track you want it on. Check that ghosted data is displayed TV Menu--->View--->Display--->Display Ghosted Data though as only the visible envelopes will copy.

Check out a couple of videos I have on pasting one here and another here

I'm not having any success with that. I cannot copy sections of a track (which is NOT what I want at the present) and though the copy dialogue box allows me to check "copy automation" when the track is pasted on the new track I only get the wave form. Remember, what I'm really after is eliminating 5 minutes of dead time/outtakes at the beginning.

SO assuming you have the copy automation check box in the copy dialogue checked and it's not pasting, you must have the track/buss automation option unchecked in the paste options.

Use Alt+Ctrl+V to bring that up.

I have realized it's simpler to remove automation, delete the unwanted clips, move tracks to 1 on the ruler, and re- set nodes and automation envelopes. Would have been nice, though...... (sigh).
    Thanks for your efforts.

Oh sorry....  I've just realised that you meant delete a hole without deleting the whole track's automation. (I think that's what you mean anyway)

You can do that but I'm not sure how good it'll turn out on simple instrument tracks or busses which are a bit buggy still when it comes to automation.

If you haven't already gone the long route try this.

    1. Press Ctrl+A to select all and then drag select the front of the project that you want removed in the time ruler.
    2. Select Edit--->Delete..... from the main menu.
    3. In the dialogue box select all options and then check "Delete Hole" at the bottom (and shift by whole measures if you want that).
    4. Press ok

That should delete everything that you have selected at the beginning of the project and move everything else across to fill the gap.
