Variphrase.. On the Roland V-Vocal, is that not the same thing in Cubase that people...

Hey guys...

In Cubase 6, 6.5...  I believe there is something called Vari-Phrase?  Yeah?  People are raving about it all over gearslutz..  Anyways, I was just getting my feet wet with Roland V-Vocal..  Also says, "powered by Vari-Phrase..  So what is up with that?   Same thing?

So we all have access to that stuff then?

EDIT =  A little more googling on my part has turned up that the Cubase tool is actually called Vari-Audio, and also Yamaha's Vari-phrase technology..  Obviously, all this stuff is related in the fact that it does, "pitch correction," but I am curious to know whether the actual algorythms, and the implementation of the ideas and all are related, as well as the overall workflow and how they do things.  In essence, is the V-Vocal powered by proprietary technology, or has it been licensed, or perhaps co-developed with Yamaha, or Stienberg or something?

Its interesting to me...  thats all

Cheers

Friend of mine has Cubase and he gave me a quick demo of the Vari-Audio plug. It actually came out in Cubase 5. It was only a quick run through, but from the little bit he showed me it looked quite a bit more intuitive than V-Vocal. From what I remember it kind of reminded me of Melodyne or Waves Tune. I highly doubt Roland and Yamaha worked together on it though. Probably more of a case of one following (copying) the other. I think Roland may have been first w/ the technology though. I remember when the vari-phrase hardware sampler came out years ago. I don't remember Yamaha having anything like it at the time. Could be wrong though.

oh ok..  yeah I agree, "v-vocal," a little tricky imo.  they should put version 2 on the drawing board.  If I saw melodyne editor used somewhere..  and I had the cash..  I'd give a good thought to springing for it.

but you know.. I don't know enough about the sound qualities of all these tools.  Wish I had a way to compare Autotune vs melodyne vs variaudio vs v-vocal...  the logistics of trying to do that myself are a pita though...   for one i don't have an ilok or syncrosoft dongle..    and also..  it takes months to really get to know the tools like this.   its not a reverb or something, where you can tell in ten minutes...

    cheers
