Music Creator 6 - Midi-to-Audio Problem

I have not been able to figure out how to record the MIDI parts to an audio file for exporting. Here are my specs.

Windows 7 (64)
Music Creator 6
Sound Blaster X-Fi
Kentron SD2 module

I can compose and play back midi parts just fine. The Ketron SD2 is wired into my "Line-In" jack of the sound card. I currently have it set to "What U Hear", and I know this is working because when I look under RECORDING DEVICES for Windows 7 I see "What U Hear" selected. When I play back the midi composition I can see the green-bar icon lighting up from that Windows pattern.

But in the Music Creator software I can not figure out how to record anything. I insert a new audio file. I hit the small red record button on the Audio track. If I hit "play" to let the midi composition play, there is no indication that any sound is being picked up (no green bars spiking in time with the music). Obviously music is there, but this audio file marked for recording is not picking it up specifically.

I'm sure I must be missing a step. Can anyone help? Thanks!

have you selected the Ketron as a MIDI OUTPUT device in MC?  if not, do that first.  go to preferences by hitting P on the keyboard, then click on MIDI DEVICES and in the OUTPUTs, select the KETRON.

then on your MIDI track, select the KETRON for the OUTPUT.

then when you insert the new audio track, set the INPUT to the LINE input of your soundcard, then ARM the track and hit RECORD on the transport, not play.

Thanks for the info. Let me fill you in with a few more details any maybe you can tell me where I'm going wrong.
    • Under preferences/MidiOutput I do have USB Midi selected.
    • On the midi tracks I have 1-USB Midi selected for each.
    • When I insert a new audio track, I click the drop-down box under the IN/OUT pane (for input). There is no option for anything related to my sound card. I can select "Selected Tracks Input" or "Selected Tracks".  From that pop-up menu I can select any of the midi tracks (individually or grouped) but hitting OK merely closes the menu with no changes (the IN tab of the IN/OUT pane remains blank).

As a point of reference, I have a .wav sound-effect I added to the piece, and when the time comes for the FX to be played I do see activity in the new audio track. So it's able to hear the non-midi sounds.

If you have any suggestions, I'd appreciate them. Thanks for your help thus far.

Without trying to be a smarta$$ or anything... my suggestion is... if you are more then halfway serious about music, buy a decent USB based musical interface which uses native ASIO drivers.

It will make working with midi and synths so much sweeter than the factory POC card.

Run the Wave profiler again. It should have run the first time you opened MC and if the SB was connected, it should have 'seen' it and the ins/outs should be selecteable.
WhatUHear is probably not a good option, since everything that's playing will be recorded on subsequent tracks.
