New computer: when I try to overdub, i still hear old audio for 1 second. wt???????
It is SOO distracting and un usable this way. When I try to overdub over an existing take, I still hear the old take for 1 second AFTER hitting record. I am stumped. Anyone encounter this?

I'd start by having a look at your settings - Audio samples buffer, I/O playback & recording buffers etc. Might be helpful to post a bit more info up, interface settings etc.

It also may be audio recorded in a hidden layer. View layers. Happend to me before I new about layers.

Are you overdubbing on the same track? Can you explain the process you're following?

A stab in the dark? Did you have a delay on the old track that is finishing?

Yes, overdubing on the same track- vocals for example- If i hit record in the short space between two words, i will still hear the next second of what's in the track i'm recording on. This is a fresh install of everything on a new computer. It does it in 64 bit and 32 versions of Sonar. X1 and X1 Expanded. I didn't play with the buffer size, etc settings (i usually don't need to) I'm using profire 2626

Make sure if you want to rec over audio your in replace mode-not ovedub rec. I use a 2626 too I don't think that has anything to do with the situation. Are you loop recording? Looping over a set range?

If i hit record in the short space between two words, i will still hear the next second of what's in the track i'm recording on. That's ridiculous.... Learn how to use Punch In and Out (its in the Help menu). and do it right. Computers can't respond that quickly. Hey, I know someone in Cinnaminson, NJ.... last name is Clements... :)

No, and no. I've been manually punching in for over a decade. I have never had an issue where it didn't respond instantly to hitting the red button on the transport. I am a ninja at it. Also, I am not talking about effect trails either. This sounds nothing like that. That wouldn't offend me. I am not a new user. I just have a new computer and a new problem. As i stated above, it seems to be caused by Waves plugins. If I find out more, i will post.
