Sonar X1 Won't Play Through a Project

It seems that Sonar X1 has developed a problem on my computer. It will do just about anything except play through a project. I can export audio, get into the Preferences etc, but when I press the space bar or the play button, it gives me a "wait" symbol which never ends. If I then restart my computer, I may be able to play the project for a minute or two. Then it freezes up again. This problem MAY have started after I upgraded from Producer to Producer Expanded. Needless to say, this puts a major crimp in my workflow. It happens even if I try working in a different project. Has anyone experienced this? I'm using Windows 7, 64 bit. Thanks.

    That sounds like an issue with audio drivers. Have they been updated lately? It's not unknown for updated drivers to cause that sort of sluggish behaviour problems, rolling back can help.

    It could on the other hand just be a driver install thing. Might be worth un-installing them and reinstalling them. Another likely suspect could be a corrupt aud.ini file. You can delete that (or rename it if you want to be able to go back to it) Sonar will create a new one for you thus fixing the corruption but you may lose some of your customisation settings that are audio related.

    Aud.ini on a win 7 install is in your C:\Users\YourUserName\AppData\Roaming\Cakewalk\SONAR X1 Producer folder.

    Thanks for your input. I'm using the Presonus Audiobox USB for my sound "card." After I wrote the original post last night, I tried unplugging the Audiobox from the USB port and then plugging it back in, rather than getting out of the program and restarting my computer when the problem occurred. It did help...Sonar was able to play for a short time. So apparently it is some sort of problem with the audio drivers, and that makes sense anyway, seeing that Sonar can do everything except play back. I'm going to try reinstalling the Audiobox drivers. If that doesn't work I'll try your suggestion re the aud.ini file. Next would be contacting Presonus tech support. Thanks again.

    Dont waste your irme re-installing the drivers, if you have the latest installed already.

    First, just adjust your ASIO buffer or WDM slider until your project plays. Try both driver modes (ASIO and WDM) to see what works best for you.
