Instrument tracks output audio yesterday, no output today
My MIDI instrument tracks sounded swell yesterday, but today I booted up, started X1, loaded the project and the instrument tracks are silent. I'm only hearing the audio tracks. I checked the instrument track levels. I checked the output assignments on the MIDI tracks (to the instrument tracks) and the instrument tracks (to master). I checked the (Dimension Pro) plugins on the instrument tracks. I checked the MIDI settings on the Preferences panel. I checked that MIDI notes were there in the piano roll view. I watched the MIDI notes triggering on the signal meters in the track inspector and on the console view. All looks normal to me. I loaded another project and BEHOLD, the instrument tracks are outputting audio. I compared everything I could think of between the two projects, but I don't see anything different. One odd thing I have noticed is that clicking on the virtual piano keys in the PRV does not output any audio in either project, when in the past, it did. I click a piano key, the signal meter in the inspector pegs, but no audio. Any troubleshooting suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

It may be a SIT thing. I have seen something similar occasionally but I usually then open the audio preferences and when I close out it's okay. I'm using SITs more and more as part of a project I'm working on but there's definitely some issues with them compared to the split pair.

like the biker said sometimes a quick open and close will do the job. im guessing it has something to do with what you did right before you made your last save. sometimes even reseting the midi engine or even as simple as start playback then you hear a quick blast from your synth and all will be good.

You lost me with the acronym, FBB. What's the SIT? Simple Instrument Track? That's what I'm using. What problems have you had? Is there a better option?

Hey Cakewalker. I'm having weird happenings with SITs to (Simple Instrument Track). Similar to you but in reverse. Doesn't work then it does.

I usually have them split, can't/couldn't (?) really see the point of them TBH but I'm working on something at the moment where I have to use them for some of it. I must admit they are growing on me but there are def some bugs that I don't see when they're split. The non-outputting audio being one, and envelope cut & paste or automation in general being another. As mentioned SIT is Simple instrument track as opposed to SHI..... oh nevermind...

Yes, there's been a few times when I've stopped and restarted playback and the synth starts outputting. How do you reset the MIDI engine??? by clicking the midi icon right in the transport control(the module that has the playback controls, metrodone on/off its right next to the audio engine button reset.

Resetting the MIDI engine didn't help, but here's what has: I right-clicked on one of the instrument tracks, selected "Replace Synth" and replaced "Dimension Pro x64" with "Dimension Pro" (I have two versions of Dimension Pro loaded). I selected the program that I had been using, and suddenly I had audio on that track. I've heard about 32-bit vs. 64-bit issues; maybe that's what's going on here? I think one version of Dim Pro came loaded with X1, and later I bought a Dim Pro expanded version. Maybe the bundled version is 32-bit? I'm running on a 64-bit system (Windows 7, quad Intel i7 CPU's), and have installed 64-bit versions of all plugins that offered that choice. Anyway, I replaced "Dimension Pro x64" with "Dimension Pro" on the other instrument track, and that one started outputting as well. Then I conducted an experiment and changed both synths from "Dimension Pro" back to "Dimension Pro x64"and they both worked. So the root cause of the original loss of audio output on the synth tracks is unknown. At least I have a workaround if it happens again...
