    Either route the audio 'from the click' out and back in to another input and record it that way. OR, insert gtr rig on an empty audio track, turn on gtr rigs metronome, hit freeze. It will bounce Gtr rigs metronome to track (following tempos and all) NOTE: as of X1D fastbouncing will only use the first tempo in the list. Audible bounce is the only workaround)

    Its very possible. Just select the drum soft synth of your choice and you can enter your hits in the PRV view or just use your midi controller to enter the hits.

    You can make any kind of custom click track your brain can come up with. There are no limitations!!!

    hmmm, thanks for the ideas, I'll use them. However it's a bit annoying that there is not a way to record it to a track. I need to do this per some studio work I'm going to. Also I remember years ago when somehow my click was recording in my audio track and I could not turn it off. It was to long ago to remeber what was up with that.

    You can, if you use audio as your source. If you use midi, you record the midi data. UIf you use audi, you record the audio.

    Thats user error, not Sonar.

    I guessed what you wanted so that is why I said its not possible to record the metronome or send it to a track. If you want a click track find the midi file in sonar that the metronome uses and drag to a track. You can also find midi or audio clicks online.

    Just use what ever audio source you want and record a click track, if you want ot use audio for your click track.

    If you want to have an audio click track, but make it with MIDI, just use any soft synth and then boucne it to audio. Its very possible as i have done this many times myself

    It's definitely possible but it depends on your set up.

    All I do is set the metronome to use one of my external drum machines and then record the audio from that. Simple.

    Re:How to record a click track in X1 2012/06/30 15:03:18 (permalink)
    METHOD 1: Use an audio cable to route the click track from sonar out of your audio interface (eg. output 3/4) and back into your audio interface (eg inputs 1/2). Add audio track and set up inputs (1/2) for your click routed out 3/4 and back in 1/2. Record the click in realtime. METHOD 2. Record blank audio on a track for 1 or 2 seconds. Extend the clip to the length of the song. Insert Gtr Rig. Hit the gtr rig metronome. find the Mute button and un-mute the metronome (in gtr rig still). Now enable 'Input Echo' on that track. (you should hear the gtr rig metronome going) (Now for X1D your must disable the fastbounce by right clicking freeze, then options and uncheck fastbounce) Now hit freeze on your track and it will freeze the click as audio. Prior to X1D you could actually fast bounce your click. This still works good in realtime.

    I remember about a year ago i looked like a fool on here swearing up and down that it was possible to just route the metrodone to a track or bus and record it.
    from then on out i am out of conversations concerning recording the metrodone sorry,i forward all my calls to fbb.
    if anyone can figure a way to do it he can.

    I like the idea of dragging the metronone files that the metronone uses into its own midi track, but I can not fine the meronone sound file. anyone know where it is?

    I used to use this all the time. I hated the metro either too quiet or I wanted a fatter sound.

    Use PRV or Staff to enter 4 quarter notes into a measure in a new midi track. Set the output of the track to your drum synth. Copy & paste the measure as far out into the song as it needs to go.

    Its easy to accent the first beat or make it a snare or a kick..... it keeps good time and sounds better as a click.

    You can always edit the track later to add cymbals and tome and other things.

    Ok, here is my method:
    1) Insert a synth which gives you the click sound you prefer;
    2) Place note in the PRV or Piano roll at the desired pitch and at the desired intervals, e.g., quarter notes, eights..., for a duration of a measure or two;
    3) Bounce your clip to track;
     (3a) Convert your new clip into a groove clip (make sure to edit the length accordingly), name it and export or drag it into the Browser (where desired) for future use);
    4) Drag your new 'click' clip into the Matrix View (or "MV");
    5)  Create a new audio track or use the new audio "bounced" track (make sure to delete the original synth track and the new audio 'click' clip);
    6) Set clip in the Matrix to the above audio track; set MV to follow transport and activate loop;
    7) Arm your audio track.
    Now you can record your click track into SONAR's Track View from the Matrix.  As mentioned in Step 3a, I suggest that you keep a groove clip of your click loop so that you may use it in the future.  Since it is a groove clip it will automatically sync to any tempo.

    The above seems like a lot to do, but it is much easier than it seems and once it's done you will only need to do steps 4 - 7 next time.  This also eliminates any physical routing or any loop-back limitations from your sound card/audio interface.

    Kind regards,

    this is what I do, too.   I actually have made a little collection of metronomes, with different 1 or 2 bar count-ins, like 1-2-3-4, or 1-3/1-2-3, then various main click measures with different patterns to suit the style and instrument I'm playing, like 1-2-3-4, 1-3, 2-4, etc.   I freeze the drum synth and make the audio into a groove clip, and combine the count-in and count clips in a set of track templates that are effectively a collection of different metronomes for me.

    It would be nice to have a programmable metronome to let you set up this kind of thing more directly, but if it were as flexible as this approach, it probably wouldn't be a whole lot different from this approach.  The one thing I'd really would be the ability to make it all visual somehow - I like to be able to see my metronome after I've drowned it out with loud playing...

    one more thing I always do is I allow the first 2 measures in every project to be blank measures.

    I use them for the count in.

    Every song starts at measure 3 beat 1 (not counting any lead in notes)

    When I get to the point I don't want the count in, I simply use a volume envelope to silence that track for the count in.

    After exporting to my wave editor, I simply trim the silence or count in out of the project. Done!

    I just create whatever pattern I want (even a single hi-hat or whatever) in the Step Sequencer and do a copy/paste for some giant number of iterations of that pattern.  With this you can have the tempo automatically respond to any inserted tempo changes, which is rather helpful.

    The Step Sequencer is really easy to use for creating patterns - check it out.
