How to export a midi track ??....

Maybe that I don't work very often with midi...

but how do the hell I can export a MIDI track outside of Sonar so I can then reimport it in another software??...

If I select that midi data track, trying File / EXPORT leaves me with Audio, OMF and Track Template.... Only other I could have thought of was ''MIDIGroove clip'' but it's in grey....

Can't believe I just cannot move it outside?

Thanks,
Rob

Try "save as" file type <filename>.mid then load the file in the other software most DAW software allows the loading of midi files.

==== Can I assume that even though I get a message that ''cannot be saved into midi as it include audio tracks'' (even though I solo the MIDI track), will just save that .MID file and simply ignore the 25 audio tracks in there?  If so, many thanks for the hint.

I sometimes need to do this with Sibelius, I just drag and drop the file from the track in X1 straight into Sibelius. Works like a charm.

Not sure this would work with Pro Tools which tens to play outside of his world....

With the other approach, it seems to work as long as I save the project with another name, then delete all tracks, then ''save as'' .mid (with only one track)... Otherwise, I get a .MID file with 29 empty tracks and just one with content !!....   Can't believe Cakewalk could not allow a simpler export process for MIDI data track !!...  (My only quick test remains to open that .MID into Windows Media Player so I can make sure there is something being saved...   I will now try to import that track into Pro Tools but since I only have it on a Mac, I can't just ''drag and drop'' as you suggest ;)

    Thanks very much guys,

If you have multiple clips in the MIDI track, first select the track and choose Clips > Bounce To Clips to create one long MIDI clip. Then simply drag and drop that clip to the Windows desktop or into a Windows Explorer window to export it as a MIDI file.
