Drum replacement, do I need a separate vst?
If I have a 1 measure kick drum... I like the groove. but want to change the kick. How do I do it? Is it possible without having to buy a separate vst... I suppose I could record a measure of the kick I want, and try to match em by slicing and replacing.. is there an easier way? cheers

I've never needed to do this, though I always figured I would one day. I think this approach works for a lot of people, and they are doing exactly what you're asking about - replacing a kick with a sample from elsewhere. http://www.cakewalk.com/s...reader.aspx/2007013031 I believe there's a bunch of drum replacement software, maybe as plugins, as well out there, but like I said, never had to really get into it beyond just making sure it was possible.

Depends on if the kick is a live drum or synth. If you have Session Drummer 3 (or any of the 3rd party drums or hardware) it's just a matter of changing the loaded instrument. If it's a live drum use audiosnap to extract the kick as MIDI. You can set the note pre extraction or change it after the event of course. Then paste it into a MIDI track with a drum synth on it.

I use triger, the Vst from slate digital. It is very easy to use, comes with great snares, kincks cymbals etc (you can also import your own sounds). It does the job great and is very quick. you can blend the 2 kicks or replace completely, set a short delay for the trigger if needed etc. I use it on pretty much every song. Most snares and kicks I use are a compbination of different hits blended together.

You can select the new kick drum and create a new track copy and paste and line up with existing kick. Use audio snap on the existing kick create a midi and then line it up with new kick sample.

Thanks mate.. Actually, its a break I lifted, and resampled, so slicing the midi from the original groove isn't happening, and I'm going for the audio snap... but I got swamped with work all off a sudden. so I can't try it out till tonight Much obliged :-) fitzj You can select the new kick drum and create a new track copy and paste and line up with existing kick. I've heard, and seen all over kvr and gearslutz that his plugs are great... but... my list of priorities are bills, bills, bills, and vocal mics.. :-)
