One folder for .cwp and audio files?
I am pretty sure that Sonar 8.5 did create a folder for both the audio files and the cwp-file for a given project. With X1 it seems to have gone back to the case where project file is separated from its audio files which are in a "central" audio folder. I want Sonar by default creating a project folder for both the project-file (cwp) and the different wave files, isn't that possible? I thought checking "use per project audio-folders" in preferences would do the trick but it didn't.

You should be using CWP files with your per project folders, not CWB files. CWBs are not very reliable because of their size.

I just went thru this too. The answer I got was to use "Save As" and use the opportunity to make a folder for your project. Open and save into this and it saves the Audio wavs inside that along with the project file.

FWIW, I've jumped from Sonar 6 PE to Sonar X1 Expanded. I have not messed/changed any of the settings yet, I accepted the defaults, and each project has a folder, which is named after the project title, and in that folder is the CWP file and another folder called "Audio," and that contains all the audio WAV files for the project. There is, however, a folder called "Audio Data," which resides in the root of the "Cakewalk Projects" folder, but it is empty.

Daveny: Thanks! My fault, I meant cwp and not cwb. I just corrected that in the first post. CWB-files can't handle audio snapped och V-Vocaled clips if I got it right. M_Glenn_M: OK! Save as and there's a dialog box where I can check or uncheck "copy all audio with project". From help menu: "Copy all audio with project (Project saves only) When selected, this check box creates a copy of every audio file your project references, regardless of where they are located, and stores them in a folder called Audio Data. The Audio Data folder is created in the folder where you save your project. For example, if you save your project to the following folder: C:\My Project Your project’s audio is saved in the following folder: C:\My Project\Audio Data..." The thing is there is no such folder as "Audio Data". It is called "Audio". Sounds nerdy maybe but important when it comes to saving files. I think the help menu is obsolete, the same frases are used as for older Sonar versions. Anyway it seems like this box (copy all audio with project) should be checked in order to create an audio folder within the specific project folder and NOT dumped into general audio folder (for all projects) which seems very unrelyable to me. Another annoying thing is "creates a copy of every audio file..." which means there could be audio files (originals) somewhere else, where?? Audio files, esp 24 bit wave, take a lot disk space. Sonar ought to be clearer in how it handles those files!

synkrotron: OK. I found that "audio Data"-folder too in C: programs/Cakewalk . I think that if I decide to save all project and audio files on a separate disk "Global audio folder", since it's allways handy to have programs and data on separate disks, e g if the first disk crashes, Cakewalk shouldn't keep the default Audio Data folder, it obscures and complicate things.

Yeah, I agree... I actually created a "Cakewalk Projects" folder on my second SSD. Sonar still, however, created its "Audio Data" within my new folder, so it must just be a default setup thing. I've created a couple of projects since upgrading to X1 a few weeks ago, and the "Audio Data" folder remains empty, as expected I suppose. I have always preferred to keep the project audio files along with the CWP file so that I can safely move the files around without losing anything, or messing up the Sonar audio storage system, if you know what I mean. I then regularly copy my projects across to a USB HDD, as a backup. I never trust in just one, or even two storage devices nowadays...

Synkroton: I do almost exactly the same as you but I use cwb-files (like audio and cwp-files "zipped" to asingle file) on my USB 2 TG external backup hard disk. CWB files can't handle V-Vocal and Audio snap files, I can live with that... However my Audio (Data) folder on my second SSD-disk does contain audio files, which worries me but I now hopefully know how to get around this, thanks to you guys!
