Which graphics card connections (Cross post apologies)

Hi all  Just bought an LED TV (Samsung UE32C4000 ) and I'm wanting to connect my PC.  My Nvidia Geforce 210 doesn't have an HDMI output but I can use either the VGA or DVI outputs. (I'm guessing the DVI is a better option ?  I have a few questions about this.  Looking on line it seems that all the later versions of my card come with HDMI and I could pick one up for £20 - £30. Would I see a big improvement in picture quality using the native HDMI of a newer card or should I just use a DVI to HDMI adapter as there difference is very slight?  Or will I get just as good a picture using DVI to DVI?  I'm thinking there's probably no need for a new card to be honest but since their cheap if someone tells me HDMI is hugely better I might go for it.  Steve

I will have to make one basic assumption; that is, you do not need to send the AUDIO from your PC to the TV along with the VIDEO (DVI, unlike HDMI, only sends the VIDEO signal). If you do want to send both, I am not sure if an HDMI adapter would do that, anyway. If you only want to send the VIDEO signal, I would stick with DVI-to-DVI. As far as the quality of the VIDEO signal, I don't think you would see a difference.

    Thanks  OlSkoolGuy

Your assumption is a good one. I was thinking I might want to run the audio out if I were watching films but I can run them via the USB on the TV which I have done so eah, probably just the monitor.
    DVI it is then :)

    Cheers

HDMI cables can transmit audio if the videocard allows it. I was surprised when I connected my PC to my TV via HDMI that Sonar said it had found a new audio device. I didn't add it because I didn't need it; may do so in future since it's another way to check how mixes sound.

Yeah I had thought I might add it at some point but only for convenience but I hadn't thought of using it as another reference point. Still since my Geforce 210 doesn't have an HDMI output it's not going to happen. Steve

I find the HDMI connection very handy for exactly that: sending audio to the TV. If for nothing else than to hear what my mixes sound like on a typical TV! At the same time, if I want to watch some YouTube without having to turn on my mixer/speakers......
