Getting realism in a programed guitar solo
I need suggestions on how to making a programed guitar solo sound more like it was played. The virtual instrument is Electri6ity, I've got an acceptable sound from Guitar Rig 4 but the problem is the performance is too smooth, it sounds synthy... If Groove Quantize is the way to go, I need suggested settings because I've never used that feature before. The passage is quite fast in places (6 notes to a beat at 125 bpm) I played it on the album and I used to play it live all the time but that was 30 years ago. Thanks - rev

No substitute for playing it live man - go on, you know you want to.

Its very difficult to get a realistic electric guitar track using synths. The closest you can come is by playing the track on a synth keyboard so you can bend notes and get the right attack and legato feel to the parts.

Dave: It's easier to put the notes in with the mouse and do the bends separately. Put the MIDI track in record and push the wheel when required - you can try over and over again until it's right without having to perform the solo again. I've become very good at guitar solos done this way (such that guitarists have to ask) but this particular solo is not cooperating. Arpeggios sound convincing but a very fast scale sounds too smooth. It could be something to do with the notes being consecutive diatonics, when they're not consecutive, the ear buys it more easily. Pick noise helps convince the ear but there isn't much time for it when the passage is fast.

Unless you have control over pick noise, hammer ons, pull offs, palm mutes, fret noises, etc, you're really going to struggle, in my opinion.
