Punch In takes not playing back...

I had a very bizarre evening. While recording punch in takes to fix some mistakes I had made on a bass part, the takes became non-playable.  The wave forms are there, but at the beginning of each punch in take in the upper corner at the start of the track , there is a red circle with a bar. I went thru all of my settings both in Sonar X1D Expanded and also my VS700.  I finally gave up and simply re-recorded the entire bass part... weird. I did  a search but came up empty. Any thoughts?

The red circle with a bar indicates that the clip is muted.

Select the clip & press k to unmute

The takes are being saved into one track with separate layers.  Each individual take shows a tiny mute and solo button. When you solo one take, the rest mute.  Even when making sure that the take does not show being muted, the icon remains on the clip and won't play. I will revisit this today. Thanks

I do my punch ins a bit different than most folks here ...(I do believe)....

    I don't use layers.

If I have a mistake that needs fixing.... I split that mistake out of the track and it becomes a separate clip in the track. Then I highlight it and auto set my punch in/out point to that new clip. Then I delete the mistake audio.
Next I simply record the part again...... no layers, no problems.  If I don't like any of the new takes, I can back up using undo while in that session.

Be aware that undo will not undo if you close the project and come back later.

My theory is and always has been, that if I played it correctly one time, I can easily do it again, and better the next time.

So I don't sweat the loss of that clip. Just do it again, and again, and again, and again, until I am satisfied with the take.

record, listen, analyze, delete, repeat..... until it's right.

BJ... you were right on.  As many years as I've used Sonar, I am a little sheepish that I didn't realize this. For some reason, this never was a problem before... or I just missed it.  anyway, thanks..
