Four out of five dentist don't t think so.
Well, my dentist would heartily disagree with you ... and he plays a lot with many folks around Portland and still takes lessons from Glen Moore (Oregon) when he can. He has played with Tom Grant around here and many other names.
He's a funny guy and very much a kid with an instrument in his hands, though he is not very clear about his music learning. 30 years ago, he worked on my teeth on a Saturday morning with Egberto Gismonti playing his acoustic stuff on his music system at the office, and Tangerine Dream right behind it ... while I was gas-d senseless.
So he takes a trip to Brazil and Argentina and takes a bass with him because he wanted to learn some more about the Latin rhythms, and when he gets there, the folks want him to play the American stuff so they can learn it, and he wants to play their stuff so he can learn it!
I remember when he first got a 5 string bass ... about 15 years ago, I think, and he was scared senseless ... and told me about it. I said ... you just sit with it, play a few things, get comfy and let it rip ... and he finally did ... and now he plays mostly a stand up bass with 5 or 6 strings!
He is a professional and then some ...
Funny note. On that same day with the music, he was having a hard time with one of my teeth ... and I stopped him, and told him that tooth was not a bass drum ... he is very careful with working any situation and very good at what he does. I can not imagine him not being as sensitive and as good as a bass player ... his constitution would not allow him not to be. I do think that he thinks about that too much, but that might be because of the number of professionals he plays with.
Name is Keith Collins, btw. And I highly recommend him as a dentist, too!
