a real sonar x1 thread.. producer>expanded upgrade sequence?

I have Producer X1c and did not update to x1d yet as i was working on a few projects.
With those completed, I am taking the opportunity to upgrade to expanded and add the prochannel channel compressor and gate/expander, so i have a question about the myriad of files i just downloaded.....

Can i assume the files should be installed in the following order?..

a) X1c Producer patch for expanded
b) Producer expanded installer
c) ch compressor
d) gate

and then the X1d update?..

or should i upgrade to X1d and THEN add expanded?.. thanks

this is in the other thread just posted

I upgraded the prochannel stuff after installing X1d and all works fine :^)

edit; I should think a bit further before hitting the post button... When I installed Expanded, it did so to X1c level (build 425), so I only had to follow that up with the X1d patch...

I'm sorry I could be more certain. In my rush to try and help someone on the forum, instead of being helped, for a change, I end up typing poop. I can only assume I am suffering the onset of early senile dimentia. Hell, I only did this a couple of days ago myself, and it all went in like a dream.

    lol..np :)

the "x1c patch for expanded" is in fact, (well, i think it is) simply the X1c patch.. or so it appears, its the identical size so will skip that step..

as for dimentia.. i cannot remember if i have that, cheers!

Mystic, could you humour me with a slightly off topic question, save me raising one elsewhere?

I notice in your sig that you have a Novation Nova. Is that a soft synth by any chance? The reason I ask is, I bought the real deal when they came out back in god knows when. Nostalgia dictates that if there is a soft synth available for my hardware synths, I've got to have it ;^)

I checked out the Novation site earlier, having seen your sig, but I can only see versions of their Bass Station and V-Station synths...

    Thanks

edit; I just googled the Nova and found this old SOS article:-

    http://www.soundonsound.com/sos/sep99/articles/novation.htm

So I would have bought mine shortly after it came out, probably in 2000

    expanded first my friend.
    x1c-then expanded-then x1d
the patch itself says right on it sonar x1d expanded.
meaning expanded hit the market first, then the patch came after.
always remember it like that and youll be good to go.
its quite a horrow show when its done backwards, then you need to re install and we know how long that cane take.

    good luck man.

    just for clairification.
    its sonar producer,x1c,expanded,x1d,
    now i think i confused myself..but im cool,you are too,just do that.like i wrote here.

ps-youll like the x1d patch,it gives the pro channel extra features and the effects chain a whole new gui.
its a good update,i always freak about the updates cause im afraid something isnt going to be like it was..but this is alll good.

but after install, remember to check your preference menu.
most of the time some things get changed in the menus, like driver modes, megnetic strenth, exc.

ps..im not sure if sonar expanded has all the updates in them up to x1c.

    thanks folks!

I am all set, no horrors, no issues and seemingly all preferences were saved.. :)

and yup it was x1c>x1 expanded>x1D for expanded..

quite thankful really, I had finished one project and thought i had plenty of time but i realised while it was updating that i have a recording session tomorrow....lol

@synkroton.. there is no softsynth for the Nova .. and even 10 years later without doubt still the best programmable (and live playable) arpeggiator going, still not matched by the Virus or any s/w plug-in in that regard.. and a great sound.. make sure you have o.s.4.1 installed :).. had mine a couple of years and love it

Regarding the Nova... thanks for the heads up on the latest OS update... I am embarrassed to admit that I haven't even turned my on for about five years now, since I left the band I was in. My interest in music hit rock bottom for a time, in part due to a distinct lack of inspiration. I'm not a proper "musician" you see, in my view... I had a simple role in the band I was in and the part I played was manageable.

I like to think of myself as a "midician," and I like to compose my own work, rather than play someone else's. And because I turned to MIDI back in the late nineties, I kind of got lazy, and didn't practice the art of playing an instrument.

That's the beauty of music I suppose, it has so many facets, each one enjoyable in it's own right. At least I think so anyway.

Oooh... I was getting all wistful there for a minute...

Anyway, I need to turn on my Nova and remind myself what OS I have installed.

    Thanks again

We all get into an inspirational funk at times... I made the commitment to produce a project of the first genre anyone suggested... it was...."meditation".. yikes! about as diametrically opposed as possible to what i like to write.. but worked through it..including making a super patch on the Nova for the sound of waves lapping against a beach..

So, when you need a bit of a kick start for a beat here are Mystic's instant inspiration tips:

    1. 2-3 beers
    2. Midi sync the Nova to Sonar, pull up a nice bass patch (say juice bass A106) and screw with the arp settings...start with mono arp#11 with 3 notes..say D3,C4,D4.
    3. add a drum beat
    4. Add a saw/strings pad with sidechained sonitus gate from kick drum..
    5. twiddle the nova knobs

    oops..instant gratifaction :)
