Roland Quad Capture without dedicated monitors

Recently i hooked up my quad capture on my "normal" computer in the living room because i wanted to play a bit with it through my big speakers which are connected via my computer soundcard. I'm talking about normal audio speakers which one has in his living room to listen to music. No matter what i tried i couldn't get any sound from my guitar going through the quad through the internal soundcard to the speakers. Obviously something somewhere isn't compatible. Is what i'm trying to do possible at all? If so, how? Thank you very much.

Computer speakers and studios speakers normally have a built-in amplifier whereas living room hi-fi speakers do not.  To play your computer through your hi-fi, you need to connect the output from the soundcard to the hi-fi amplifier line-in rather than directly to the speakers.

Since the OP living room speaker is already connected to the PC sound card.. can I assume the hall speaker is a powered speaker ?
The OP wanted to play guitar via the Quad (using the Hi-Z feature I suppose) to connect it to the PC sound card.. So I take it this is not the regular DAW connection.. but rather Quad head phone out to PC sound card line in ?

...if this is true..I have some suggestion.. i'm already assuming too much now..

Kev999, ofcourse i meant through a hifi set :) Tomixornot, i'm not sure what you mean with the hall speaker. Either way, what you are saying is i need to use the output of the quad to my computer soundcard line in? Guess that makes sense... I thought as the quad is connected to the computer already the soundcard would pick up the sound by default. But i guess it needs a direct connection to the quad then?

    Tripod,

Hall speaker = living room speaker :)

Yes, Quad's phone out to sound card line in. All analog path.. no software / setting to worry.

See if the Quad can draw USB power from the PC, without loading any software driver. Use the Quad as a mixer, rather than DAW sound card. Turn the monitor button to mono and turn mix knob to input.

ermm... make sense ? I though you just wanted to play guitar along.. all via your existing pc sound card.. right ?

Edit : playing guitar using the Quad's hi-Z feature.

Well i actually want to use Sonar and maybe record some stuff. But that doesn't matter. I think you told me the solution by using the headphones out soundcard in. I will try that. Thanks a lot for your help!

If you wanted to run Sonar on the living room PC.. better load proper driver and use the Quad as you use in your studio.. the PC existing sound card may gives you more problem running Sonar.
