The first movie I saw when I was a child was Tora, Tora, Tora.  The second movie I saw in the movie theater (that wasn't Disney) was the Poseidon Adventure and oddly enough he became my favorite actor after that when I was little ... for many years I had the Mad magazine version called the Poop Side Down Adventure.

It's the end of an era. All the great old actors are taking their final bows.

I am always amazed at how many people, who I thought had died years ago, have managed to hang on until the day before their obituary is published.

Some even beyond it!  When my grandfather passed away (he was pretty well known locally in San Diego), the paper there posted a picture of Pappy Boynton (the pilot and actor in the Black Sheep Squadron) along with an obituary (my grandfather had a similar name and also went by Pappy).

The paper retracted everything the next day, but I still have that obit in my archives.

Mark Twain was a more famous example.  Gotta love his quote: "Rumors of my demise are greatly exaggerated."  LOL!

RIP, I think he was a good guy. He sure had a great smile! IIRC, he made another movie a few years ago or maybe he did a TV show, I don't remember. I remember seeing him on TV promoting it. He will be missed.

    Hi,

    RIP

One of the really nice guys ... and my favorite role of his was ... in The Wild Bunch ... which I still think is one of the best westerns ever made.

As a wise Guy once stated from his holy chapala ... none of the hits, none of the time ... prevents you from becoming just another turkey in the middle of all the other turkeys!

I liked him in Escape from New York, which I now understand was filmed to document the effects of a recent bagpipe infestation.

Airwolf was *awesome*.  So was Escape from New York.

But my favorite role is Mermaid Man on Spongebob Squarepants.  I've been hanging out with the 4-year-old too much.

The man who "killed" Frank Sinatra. In 1953 Sinatra's career was in the dumps. He toured Sweden, and in Finspång he played a crowd of 75 people. Later that year "From Here To Eternity" was released, and Sinatras star rose again. Maybe the best thing that ever happened to him was "being killed" by Ernest Borgnine.
