Creating groove clips in sonar x 1

I'm trying to build up a groove clip library.
The problem is when I add effects to the clip effects been, but clip becomes distorted.

Example: I have a guitar track with guitar rig in the effects been, everything sounds good until I moved guitar rig from the track effects bin
to the clip effects been.
It seems the levels change dramatically.

I'm wondering if any of you have created your own groove clip libraries and added effects to the clip.
It's almost impossible to create a good groove clip library without having processed audio clips, for instance reverb on snare, compression on base.

This is a stab in the dark, as I rarely work with Groove Clips, but have you tried bouncing the original (with GR, for instance, still in the track FX bin), listen to be sure it bounced (with FX) properly, THEN create the Groove Clip from that bounced clip? More work, I know, but maybe worth a try...

thats not a bad idea and worth a shot.
thanks ill give it a try.
i just figured the track effects box is there for a reason I.E. to do distructive editing.
id just like to learn how to control it.

It's probably to do with routing.

I seem to remember (though I'm not at my DAW and can't confirm) but I think the Clip Fx bin is the first thing the signal encounters on it's way through your DAW - before gain(!) before Sends, before anything else.

I think Bristol J is right here, as I had this issue a while back and it seems this was my issue as well...

I want to get into and understand how to use groove clips.

    Good tutorials?

I can use a midi clip to alter an audio clip?

    Or audio to alter midi?

    Or?

    Thanks

If you've lowered your input gain because you've got a hot signal coming in, the gain won't be reduced before it hits the clip Fx been bin, thus distorting it.

    sounds like good advice Bj,
i just wish there was an easier way like a pre and a post button..because i think your right about the routing to the clip effects bin being different from the tracks effects bin(routed before compared to after)
its tough because i balance out all these effects(T-racks,guitar rig, exc.)
then to pull all the mains down on these effects i kinda lose the sound im looking for not to mention its all a guessing game as to where these levels should be.

at anyrate,i tihnk youve got the most logical idea and im off to try that.
thank you..and everyone else for your input.

I think you should always do it this way.  But chuck e's problem might show up in the bounce-down too.

Either way, one general rule I've realized that makes Sonar work a lot better for me is to simplify the signal path as much as possible at every step.  The more parts that are moving at once, all with their own timing and buffering requirements and such, the more likely something is to go askew...
