Drum production classes....need a liitle help and encouragement...

I am beginning to work with the world of MIDI and thought a good place to start would be with the Sonar Master Class...this may seem like a dumb question, it seems that the interface that the individual teaching has some different features than me. I am using X1D. For instance the media browser, he is using has an auto preview button. Mine does not. It has a play button and I have to keep hitting the play button every time I want to preview a sample. This is a pain in the butt. The media browser looks a good bit different from mine in a few other places. Is there something I need to enable, or is HE using an older version...any thoughts here would help. I have played around and know the software fairly well...but I am really ignorant with MIDI, so I am starting from the very bottom and working my way up. In the process I am also learning things I did not know along the way. (I should have done this YEARS ago)...anyways....like I said, any thoughts or even helpful tips would be greatly welcomed...I am a sponge...thanks! David

Sounds like the guy is using Producer Expanded.  It adds some functionality to Producer.  Good stuff!

    David,

Which Master Class are you watching? Episode I was done in SONAR 8.5 Producer and Episode II was done in SONAR X1 Producer (not Expanded). Sometime after the videos were made X1's Step Sequencer had a GUI overhaul, but it basically works the same. As for the Browser, it will look way different in X1 than it did in 8.5. If you can't see all the controls then try making its window a little wider by grabbing the left edge and extending it out a bit.

Thanks Seth, and you are right...I jumped from 8 to X1 so I was pretty confused, but I got a few things figured out now...I felt really stupid. I am watching and following Episodes 1 and 2...I am assuming these are still great to get your feet wet, still though? David

@Frostysnake... I had the same issue when working through those Drum Production Master Classes as they are indeed using a different GUI. However if you look at the bottom of the screen while the video plays there are notes that describe how to find the functions Seth is performing to translate them into the X1 GUI. They are a little hard to read as they are so small and a few of them take some poking around to figure out but they mostly seem accurate. They are absolutely great tutorials though and helped me a lot. I hope if Seth has the time eventually to update them to reflect X1... and maybe toss in some tips on performing live with a controller... maybe he could... yanno... do that... maybe... Seth? Pretty please? ;-p

The joys of multiple version updates.

Even trickier when they go back and forth between the old and new GUIs throughout the video, as they did in one case.

It would be nice if a video would stick to one version and have a reference somewhere as to which one it is.

Not a gripe. Just a thought.

This is a problem because some are still using older versions of X1.
