Sonar X1 - what took me so long?
I've been a big fan of making music on my computer for years - BUT with very little success (until now). I've had versions of Cakewalk DAWs going back to Pro Audio 9, but I could never get my head round them, always getting stymied by some awkward usability problem or other and not able to bridge the gap in my own knowledge. I finally got Project5 and although I still had to go through a lot of figuring out, I made it! Created a bunch of tracks and was really happy with it.
Then Project5 was dropped (a sad loss - great piece of software!), so I thought that with all the progress I'd made I should be able to step up to Sonar? Nope, no joy, still getting caught up with problems I couldn't understand, I just couldn't make headway and Sonar remained on the shelf. Finally I upgraded to X1 and just recently, I've cracked it - created my first track! Very happy!
So what made the difference? Yes, X1 is much more user friendly and intuitive - just looking back at Sonar 8 it looks so much more complicated. But the key thing that's made all the difference - the videos!! I have become enthralled by the Cakewalk demos and tutorials on YouTube and it's been the big thing that's re-engaged me, educated and ramped up my enthusiasm. I've been addicted to them over the past couple of months!
Thanks Cakewalk (and others), your hard work is very much appreciated.
p.s. Brandon and Seth - CakeTV Live is a winner, I'm a fan!
