Audio export snaps & crackles -omnisphere
I am a new Omnisphere user (latest version 1.5) and I love it. However I went to export my first project using it and I have snaps & crackles in the audio. I went to the spectrasonics support knowledge base and turned off the X-Ray option and adjusted my latency, and buffer sizes as suggested, no limits on samples and have even tried streaming on/off but with no results. Everything runs smooth and fast up to the audio. Any other suggestions/work-around to prevent this? without a fix this is a useless plug-in. I have also tried audio with a single track instance of omnisphere with same results, so I know this is the problem. Below are my specs. Thanks in advance Specs: Sonar X1d producer expanded build 535 - 64 bit Windows 7 Home Premium SP1 HP 520-1050 Intel Core i5-2400S @2.50GHz 6 GB RAM 64 bit OS Hard Drive speed 7200 Steam engine and library housed in main HD

Try freezing Omniphere before you export audio. For what it's worth, I run Omnispere, Trillian and RMX (all at the same time) without much trouble. The fixes you are trying tend to fix playback problems, not export problems (although those are the things I would have suggested and tried). Also I am running Omnispere version 1.5.6D 64bit. Do you have this version? It is the most updated version.

Thanks Jimbo for responding. I am running 1.5.6D 64 bit for omnisphere. As for freezing, I get the same crackles and pops when I do this. Since you said you do not have issues how much different is your computer's specs from mine? thanks

I saw your thread in the software forum - like I said there, I think it's worth a try to move the STEAM folder to a different HD. If you have one lying around it's definitely worth trying. It takes a while but like you said, it's currently a useless instrument

I have 12 gigs of ram, i7 920 @ 2.67 ghz on Vista. I'm not a computer geek, so I'm not sure (except for the ram) if my system is better or worse. I bought my computer in 2009. The thing is, it is common for pops an crackles during playback to happen and mix down to be fine. So your issue is kinda crazy backwards. I would try messing with the freeze options. Perhaps uncheck the fast bounce option. Although my setting have the fast bounce option, single bounce per track, track fx all checked and a freeze trail duration of 5.000 seconds. Hope I'm helping and not sending you on a wild goose chase.

Yes, Project M has an excellent idea. The only problem again, it should help playback tremendously, mixdown should not be a problem. **EDIT...I saw Project M's link. Yes it could be a mixdown problem! Good catch.

When Omnisphere had been out for only a little while, Spectrasonics told the users to put the library on a different HD to prevent a whole heap of issues, both during playback and mix down. This was probably around version 1.1 or so but I'm thinking that's still a great idea to fool proof the system

it may be a long shot but .. I've noticed that Omnisphere tends to crackle when Sonar driver is set to WDM, (even if other instruments don't).... you might want to make sure you're using a ASIO driver (if not, check for ASIO4all) Hope that helps ! Cheers! V

I routinely freeze Omnisphere tracks using the slow bounce option, which solves a great many problems with that synth. If the tracks haven't been frozen, I'll export the project with fast bounce unchecked. The issues with Omnisphere and fast bounces appears to be related to memory allocation and how Omnisphere deals with low-memory conditions.
All else is in doubt, so this is the truth I cling to. My Stuff

"M_Ormond Music" and have even tried streaming on/off but with no results. I'm glad to read you have tried loading your samples into memory but surprised that it hasn't made a difference. Have you reloaded the samples after making this change. The documentation is very clear on this point (just a heads-up in case you missed it). The snaps and crackles are symptomatic of a struggling hard drive and loading the samples in memory (assuming you had enough to work with in that particular project) should of made a difference (a big difference IMHO). I'm perplexed by this.

Thanks for all the input. Lots of great suggestions that I will try out and report what, if anything works finally. I'm in the process of moving my STEAM folder to external HD as we speak too. For what it is worth Spectrasonics tech support told me to try and route the midi to record an audio track, which I am understanding to be what we have mentioned here as "Live export" otherwise they have not had much else to offer so far.

I fixed the issue when exporting audio - unchecked fast bounce, checked the live input, under the bounce settings source category I selected the omnisphere tracks. I also moved my STEAM folder from my main hard drive to my external one. I also changed the audio driver I was using. Apparently I was using MME, not ASIO. However, once ASIO was set I still had to adjust latency to get the crackling sound to go away. Happy this is fixed now. Many thanks to all of you for your input and wisdom.
