An ambiguity in the assignment of manually entered notes in PRV to a particular MIDI track

If you have 3 MIDI tracks displayed in Piano Roll View, and you manually insert a note, SONAR seemed to arbitrarily assign the note to the first MIDI track in the track list (of the 3 tracks displayed).  But that's not the track I wanted the note to be assign to.
 
So I closed PRV, reordered the 3 tracks in track view and put the track that I wanted the new notes to be added to on top, and reopened PRV.  But SONAR still assigns the new notes to the same track as before.
 
Is there any way to tell SONAR which track you want new manually-entered notes to be assigned to when you have multiple tracks displayed in PRV?  What logic is SONAR using to assign notes to a track in this situation?

    You have to make it the active track by selecting it in the track viewer over to the right of the screen.

    (It's not called track viewer but I can't remember it's real name - if you can't see it, it should be under the 'View' button

    With this open, you can mute/solo individual tracks as well as hiding them and locking the ability to edit them
