Has anyone been able to use their interface with an iPad?

I've heard that a good number of interfaces now work with the Apple Camera Connection Kit - Does anyone have any experience with this, and what limitations are there? I'd like to be able to do 3 things, but I'd be surprised if it is possible:

1) Bypass the DAC on the iPad and hook it up to a good interface/speakers for high fidelity playback
2) Be able to use any my Cakewalk 2 channel interface for demoing/songwriting at home when I can't get to my studio
3) would love to be able to record multiple channels to the iPad through my Lynx LT-USB. This way I can record in the same room as an acoustic guitar and have absolutely 0 fan noise.

I've got a feeling most of that ain't possible, but hopefully I'm wrong. I'll pick up a CCK today and try it out, but please share your experiences too. With the pending release of Auria, using the iPad as a fanless recorder seems like a viable possibility...

I'll have three fingers of Glenlivet, with a little bit of pepper... and some cheese.

I don't think iOS supports Core Audio, only Core MIDI which allows you to connect a MIDI keyboard - which is pretty cool! However, Alesis and Apogee make some iOS audio interfaces in various forms that uses the 30-pin connector to transfer audio.

The best use of the ipad with Sonar is as a remote control surface using AC-7 core, but here are some of my ramndom ipad findings..

As a standalone device i now simply dont bother.. i think if you need to plug things into it then you lose the benefit of it being a tablet and it becomes effectively a laptop and they do everything far better than the iPad..

For better audio, get the adapter to have stereo coming out of the docking port... its line level...

The iPad cannot drive or use any usb item that requires a driver... so a class compliant USB audio device will work with the usb connection camera kit.. but i would not hold my breath for high quality or low latency.

The audio interface needs to be USB Audio Class compliant in order to work with the iPad. If the interface isn't advertising itself as such, then it probably isn't compatible. Also, the initial USB Audio Class only allowed for limited I/O capability--I forget the details. But USB Audio Class 2 allows for multiple channel high bit depth and sample rate audio. Very very few interfaces support this at this time. You probably need to find an interface that specifically mentions iPad compatibility or USB Audio Class 2 compliance.

Thanks for the replies on this guys - it was as I suspected, neither my Lynx Aurora or UA-25EX worked :-) The Alesis IO dock would be ideal, but Aaple changed the pin layout, so iPad 3 will not dock with it :-(

Good news though, on the Auria website, they've confirmed that the Presonus Audiobox 1818VSL works - and they said they can record 18 simultaneous audio tracks! That's pretty damn awesome.

I think I'll either pick up an Audiobox (the 2 channel version) or wait for Alesis to update their IO dock for iPad 3...

You might want to check out harmonic dogs forum here: http://forum.harmonicdog....wtopic.php?f=2&t=6

I didn't read it but it's a forum for DAW Multitrack, an app for iPod/iPhone/iPad. it lists a bunch of interfaces that work. Such as RME Fireface UC, Tascam 800 etc.

Also listed is the Roland UA-1G and UA-25 USB.

But makes sure to read. There's like 40 pages. I know apple changed some of the USB power requirements as of OS 4 or 5.
