Bit Depth says "24" but on transport says "16". Please help!
I'm using an RME Multiface and in my preferences under driver settings, bit depth is grayed out at 24. It won't allow me to choose otherwise. However, on the transport bar under the Now Time, the bit depth says 16. Is it recording at 16 or 24? How do I get the bottom to also say 24?

There's 2 places you have to check: Preferences-File-Audio Data-File Bit Depth Preferences-Audio-Driver Settings

You can check the bit depth via the File Properties tab in Clip Properties.

I have the same problem and really don't worry about it.. I have everything in preferences set appropriately...and all seems well.. But the transport always shows 96 and 16, even thought the bit depth is set to 24...

Iv'e found to get the transport to show the bit depth you want,it's Prefferences+File+Audio Data, then in the box labled "File Bit Depths" 1.Record Bit Depth 2.Render Bit Depth 3.Import Bit Depth, changing THESE values seems to make the transport values SHOW what you want, well it does for me anyway. http://soundcloud.com/rks26 Hope this helps Bob

But the transport always shows 96 and 16, even thought the bit depth is set to 24... Then you don't have it setup properly.

Much appreciated, Daveny & others! Now another question. What do you set your render bit depth to? What's the easiest on calculations if I'm recording at 24bit/ 44.1kHz?

32 bit, and if your system can handle it, check the 64 bit engine option when bouncing/exporting etc.
