Kontakt question

Does anyone know about intsalling the version 5 kontakt player over  version 4 (the free player) Do I need to uninstall 4 first or just go over the top.

    I have Kontakt 4 (full version) and Kontakt 5 player happily co-existing. I don't think its an issue leaving K4 player on there. I am pretty sure the players are the same as the full version but with features turned off by the license codes.

    Kontakt 5 player works fine for me on Vista 64 but officialy its Windows 7 only.

    Intel i7 3770K @4.4GHz, 32GB RAM, 240GB SSD System disk, 2 x 2TB and 1 x 1TB (with SSD Cache) HDD. Windows 10,  Sonar Platinum. Roland Quad Capture.

    what glynn said, the major versions (4.x, 5.x etc) can all exist happily together, whether player or full

    As has been mentioned, they're totally separate entities.
    Thus, version 5 won't overwrite/replace version 4.
    That said, I personally wouldn't want multiple versions of the Kontakt player.
    I'd want the latest version.  Version 5 has been out for a good while now... and most issues have been ironed out.

    Like SONAR, each version of Kontakt installs in its own folder (program files\Native Instruments\Kontakt X) and each DLL is named according to its version (e.g. "Kontakt 4.dll", "Kontakt 5.dll"). The only shared dependencies are standard Windows DLLs. This assures that any two versions of Kontakt can coexist as if they were totally separate programs, which they are.


    All else is in doubt, so this is the truth I cling to.

    Excellent. Worked out perfectly and didn't even have to re add my libraries. Thank you

    You'll need the older version(s) of Kontakt installed if you have any older projects that you're still working with that use it.
