Midi mixdown problem (solved - sort of)
I have a session with about 30 or so orchestral tracks. There is one brass section ( 4 tracks ) that were LOUD on the bounced track. When I play back the session on X1 it sounds fine. And I don't mean just incorrect monitoring loud - I mean like the volume went to full. I can't fix it because I can't hear it in my session. Everything seems fine. Help????

What are the bounce settings for that track?

Well - I only know what the volume and velocity are. It's 4 total tracks that create the low brass, but the problem only appears to be the french horn track. Strange thing is the track runs throughout the whole song and that's the only section that does that (about 20 seconds). Volume and velocity are all the same as the rest of the track. Slight changes in dynamics (mod wheel) but, also - that is still constant with the rest of the track. It just jumps up there in the mixdown and I can not tell why. I'm sure it's something I'm doing, but I can't figure out what.

Check the event list view. You may have a volume control in there. Or perhaps you have a volume change on another track that's directed to the wrong MIDI channel.

Check also that the output for the tracks in question aren't routed directly to the soundcard.

solo the track and listen..... enlarge the view in console to look for envelopes that might be there too. You will have to play detective to find out what is happening. Use solo & mute as needed to find out the issue.

All great advice - thanks. Hopefully I'll get to play a bit tonight (gotta go do my real job)! Frustrating, though. It seems to be too loud sometimes and not others. Doesn't make sense. Thank you

Thank you I was about to suggest looking for doubled notes, but do I understand correctly, that this loud part sometimes plays back normally, sometimes overly loud? And this variation only takes place on an audio track? Also I'm unsure if you in your first post actually mean exporting, not bouncing? It confuses me that you say it plays fine "in the session" (I assume you mean "in the project"?) but loud when bounced.

Guys - I figured it out. It seems to be a glitch with X1. It only happens when I use fast bounce. When I have fast bounce disabled it bounces correctly (yes, Kalle - I mean exporting. Sorry). So, to sum it up - when I use fast bounce, at least one track (or 1 or 2 slips of that track) has the volume maxed out in the stereo mixdown, although fine in the session. Disabling fast bounce fixes the problem. I'll report this to Cakewalk. I've had it happen when using delays, as well. The BPM sometimes gets off. Never happened before X1d. Thank y'all for taking the time to help. I still learned a lot during this whole adventure!
