Is it possible to automate GR5 parameters in X1?

Like say I want to have the distortion or other effects increasing/decreasing throughout a track or have specific effects turn on or off for certain sections? How about swapping out amps and modules? Or is this the type of thing that would be done with cloned tracks, having set effects and settings on each and then blending/splicing? Hope you are all having a good day. Thanks.

experiment with the R button in the gui of guitar rig.
this button will record your movments in real time.
for instance turn on the R(record)in the g rig 5 gui.
then press record in sonar..move some knobs.
press stop,turn the Roff.
press play and watch the knobs move to what you just did.

im almost positive guitar rigs gui can do this as i never have but it should.

I don't know about GR5, but the best advice I got on GR4 was to take advantage of the unlimited track count, copy my raw sound (or MIDI) track to several tracks, each with different instances of Guitar Rig and the different settings I want. Then, in the mixing stage, mix in the tracks with particular settings for the particular parts of the song. This idea saved me a lot of time with trying to deal with GR's incomplete support for automation, and allows me a lot more flexibility in the final mix. In fact, by cross-fading between a clean track and a distorted track, I can even dial in an increasing (or decreasing) level of distortion.

Dean L. Surkin - Steinway A (1902, rebuilt 1988), Kawai MP8, Yamaha KX-76; Intel i7-4770K, 32GB, RME AIO; HP ZR30w (great monitor!); Sonar Platinum, Garritan JABB3 and GPO4, VB3
One day, when I have the time, I will learn how to use all the features of Cakewalk 2.0. Oh, wait, Sonar 8.5. What did you say? Sonar version what?

After recording your guitar and loading Guitar Rig into the fx bin, change from Clips in your tracks drop down menu to Automation and choose Guitar Rig. From there you can choose what you want to automate. Add your own nodes or draw in what you are wanting Guitar Rig to do. I'm not sure about changing amps but you can change your distortion or effects. Charlie's on the right track too. I think it's the W rather than the R but they're both right there. Just click it and then record on your track and fiddle with the knobs yourself. Both should get you started. Hope it helps.

These are some awesome ideas guys. Thank you so much. I'm kind of a stickler when it comes to capturing a take in one pass instead of splicing or punching in and out. It's kind of silly but it satisfies my hard headed "purist" nonsense. Seeing as how my guitar isn't the greatest and I'm forced to work with sims almost exclusively these days (my amp and mics kind of suck too and I can't really drive the amp where I live) I'd like to keep my volume and tone controls on the guitar maxed out so I just get the full signal which can be tweaked later. I also don't own the Rig Kontrol foot pedal so I can't do it on the fly (which wouldn't work out so great anyway because I can't trust my feet and I'm assuming it would create more abrupt changes and perhaps even pops due to extra CPU usage when switching things out in the take which I'd like to avoid for obvious reasons). So yeah... awesome. Thanks, doodz!

I like to set up an ACT controller, then assign my footpedals to the control the wha wha or pitch dive bomb. Then, in the Gtr rig 5 gui you hit the write enable button. ('W' Then it will record all of your foot pedal movements as a midi envelope. Of course for multiple takes of the envelopes you'll need more tracks. (or perhaps re-assign to a different CC for each take). Anyway that's what I do.
