Connecting hardware – need advice please…

Hi All

Here`s my gear.

M-Audio key Rig midi keyboard (USB)
FA-66 sound module
Preamp Joemeek Q
TC Helicon Voiceworks (VW)

For now I have connected the hardware like this:

Keyboard to comp (USB) – comp to/from FA-66 (FireWire) . MIDI cabling to/from FA-66 and VW.

Mic to preamp – preamp to VW – VW to FA-66 – FA-66 to amp.

In this setup I´m able to use the VW as an external plug, sending the track signal to the preamp
And returning it via FA-66. What I would like to do is to record a harmony track based on an already recorded vocal track.

Question is, would there be a better way to connect things in order to optimize recording, in relations to latency (and other things that I´m not aware of)

Hope it make sense, thanks for any help.

from what I know.... sounds ok to me.

The important thing is....does it work for you?   If so, life is good.

As time goes on you may find a different setup works better.

My rig is quite simple. Computer with my interface connected by firewire..... all midi and all audio go to the interface and monitor signals come out of the interface.  It doesn't get much more simple than that.

Go with what works for you. My theory on all things music, and life in general......

Do not make it more complicated than it really needs to be.

    Thanks Guitarhacker.
Agree with you, life's good . Last night I spent 4 hours in my humble studio, the 3 and a half of them was ´cable work´

Yup... the main thing is to have it work and sound good and not need to be swapping cables around to do things.

If you have that going on, time to record some music.

After all, while we are all gearheads to one degree or another, it's supposed to be about the music and making it without interruption by the gear.
