There plugs sound great and have the nicest graphics. Too bad I don't do iLock. For those prices I just can't pay for security on top.

I can understand why a software company would think something like an iLok would help their revenue stream but I think it is just as likely that an iLok is restricting their revenue stream.

I have a hard time justifying the expense of an iLok to prove that I spent my money for their software. That's just me though.

Others may have no issue at all.

I've always stayed away from anything iLok, out of principles until my wife decided to add Pro Tools to our studio, mostly for compatibility reasons. So that meant a free iLok.

I can't really complain about iLok-protected plug-ins - and it is cool to be able to finally demo and buy plug-ins I've been wishing I could use for 10 years, like McDSP.

It's there, it works, I can't say a bad thing about it (although I've noticed that my computer doesn't seem to boot as quickly since I've installed the Pace junk - but maybe it's a coincidence and it doesn't affect my work.)

Still, I prefer companies who at least offer an alternative. Glad that Waves came to their senses about that, and others like Brainworx and friends over at Plug-in Alliance. I hope it's a trend.

    Cakewalk announced this too--

Back by popular demand: Save 40% off the Softube Mix Bundle
This past February, we featured the Softube Mix Bundle at the Cakewalk Store for only $179 (40% off the regular price). Since that time, we have been asked by many users to bring it back. Through a special arrangement with Softube, we are happy to announce that this special is back for a limited-time. Through July 31st, you can save 40% off this special bundle that includes both VST and ProChannel versions.

It's not having an iLock that annoys me, it's having to PAY for an iLock on top of the product cost. Rain got his free with Pro Tools and I'd use one if it came for free. $60 is a lot of money for security.

I got a free iLok2 with Slate VCC . I bought my original iLok in 2003 for $30.00.
I still have it, still works. Not a bad investment.

    What woman wants, I guess...
As I said, though I can use it, I still don't like it and will continue to voice my preference to the manufacturers.

I've always had a real hankering for that TubeTech Cl1B.  And now they've lowered their prices and are having a sale to boot.  But...get this...I still can't bring myself to buy it now.  This is due to being a severe cheapskate, having too many compressors already, and being short on budget at the mo.  Dang!

I'm with you on this thought Rain.

And FWIW I really have no problem with folks that don't have a problem with iLok. For me though it is a deal breaker which is to bad because it sounds like people are really finding the SoftTube bundle useful. Personnally I'm waiting for UA to go 64bit.

I'm certainly no fan of the Ilok....

But a lot of GREAT PLUGS (i.e Steven Slate, Softube, etc...) require it....

Waves does too...unless you get V 9....then your good...
I have V9....and the Wave plugs are the Bomb Diggity...
