Moving software to a new computer

I purchased Home Studio XL 7 a few years ago and have been using it on and off in my free time. I am getting a new laptop in a few weeks and realized today that the installation CDs aren't inside the box the product came in (all I found was a large "Getting Started" manual). So at the moment I have no means of installing the product on a new computer, although the software still runs fine on this one and I can access my serial number through it.

What is the best way to move the software to the new computer? Can I download a free copy online, given my serial number? Can I copy the files on a flash drive, a blank CD, or an external harddrive?

Thanks in advance.

    Welcome to the forum.
I believe that you are allowed to make 1 copy of the program for archiving.
And many folks have their Digital Audio Workstations not connected to the internet, so they download programs to their internet computers, copy them and then load them on their not-connected computers.
I did that with Music Creator 6 earlier this year.

I am selling my MIM Fender Stratocaster HSS, red and black. PM for more details.

Music Creator 2003, MC Pro 24, SONAR Home Studio 6 XL, SONAR  X3e, CbB, Focusrite Saffire, not enough space.
    Everything is better with pie.

I don't think Home Studio 7 was downloadable. Check your account on store.cakewalk.com. You can't copy it over to the new computer, it needs to be installed from the disks. You're going to need to contact Cakewalk Customer Support about getting a new set of disks, if they are available.
