rewire

  I am using sonar x1 producer 64 bit and Fl studio 10. My rewire option is greyed out is there anything that im doing wrang that can be fixed?

    I am not sure if fl studio is 64bit rewire. If you install the 32bit version of sonar x1 it will work. 

    If you have Reason 6 it is definitely 64bit rewire client.

    What is rewire for? Just saw an article on Sonar and Rewire in a magazine, but the article did not explain what you would use it for. I THINK it is so Sonar can control and use virtual instruments that are outside of Sonar, but I could be really wrong.

      Rewire basically lets you sync up your sequencer or other program to run with sonar. I personally like the step sequencer in FL studio to do drums and quantize synth parts so when the two programs are rewired together what you are doing in the slave (FL studio) is recorded into sonar (master). Maybe not the most correct technical terms but thats the basic idea.

    I used to use Acid for a drum editor then worked in cubase.

    Works good. Rewire depends on which app you open first.

    So you open your DAW then open what you want to use for an editor and it will be the slave and its audio will get sent into the daw.

    not really... if you install reason with the switch for 32 bit (which it doesn't by default) .. it'll use a 32 version of their lib. so it can use both versions of it.


    with regard to FL, obv. make sure both progs are either 32 bit or 64... or else it won't work.

    Rewire allows you to host other DAWs inside of other DAWs similar to how you would host a virtual instrument in Sonar. This is great for creative applications like Reason, FL Studio and Ableton Live where they do not thrive in the areas audio engineering that Sonar does and vice versa Sonar does not do the midi composition audio tricks that a lot of people use in a creative context well. Unfortunately rewire in Sonar X1 works like crap. Best option is to totally skip rewire and bounce audio stems from FL studio and bring them into Sonar for mixing. Its annoying I know I am a Reason user and I had the same issues as I wanted to use Reason and plug ins side by side. My solution was to buy Live and rewire Reason into it and then just bounce stems to mix in Sonar. The OP may want to try this as well

      That is what i have been doing but it would really help my workflow to be able to program using rewire. I guess ill have to keep doing it the old way for now until its possible. Thanks for the replies.
