You still can't trigger the Matrix from a MIDI track?
surely this is possible by now? what have I missed?

Wow, that's a bizarre omission. At least it certainly doesn't seem like this was an intended thing. You could work around it with a loopback midi port; but it is weird that apparently, that's what you have to do.
Don't ask the question if you cannot live with the answer.

Michael Five surely this is possible by now? what have I missed? Since the matrix is a "view" and not a sampler - I wonder what the issue is? If the whole point of the matrix is for on the fly kind of things, and it can be fired by midi commands and can record to tracks, what advantage would one gain from a midi trigger from the track that a sampler wouldn't resolve? Just Curious! Brian

Recall that the matrix view can hold both MIDI and Audio, so I don't think that the comparison to a sampler is very useful. But, to answer your question; I would see this as being useful when playing around with an arrangement of clips and wanting to tweak a performance that I had just recorded. I understand that I can change the underlying elements that have been placed on the tracks, but any connection between those elements and the matrix view is gone at that point. I.e., it's no longer a performance in the matrix, it's just a bunch of clips.
Don't ask the question if you cannot live with the answer.

It is a bummer that we cannot trigger clips in the MV. Just for clarification, the MV does not accept incoming audio or MIDI. It merely plays back audio and/or MIDI clips through a respective track at desired time values, e.g, immediately, next measure, next half note, etc. The MV is soarly missing a lot of routing possibilities that leaves it almost useless to many users. For instance, automation, triggering (as you mentioned) and routing to outboard synths, etc. Some of us are hopeful the Bakers will incorporate these capabilities to the MV in the next release of SONAR...I'm guess SONAR Y1. So that just leave a third vrersion, being "Z", for the life of SONAR to end. After that, I think CW will call it quits and try making and selling kites.
Kind regards, Living Room Rocker

If I remember correctly you can "record" performances in the Matrix View into a MIDI track. That's backwards of what you're asking for, but may do the trick depending on your workflow. Peace, Tunes

MV can be triggered by Midi, just not from a MIDI track. As Andy suggested, you can get round that using a loopback. I haven't tried this, but Midi-Ox will probably allow that to be setup in software with no cables. What I have asked for is a "Loop End / Longest Loop End" change for the cells. At the moment the longest interval is a measure, which makes MV a pain for live use. If you set up 4 columns for verse / chorus / break / outro for example, I want want to be able to trigger a chorus at any time though the verse and have it wait for the verse to end. That way I don't have to be playing and singing and remembering to go hit the pedal within a measure at the end of the verse. If anyone wants to add to the request that would be nice - I do use MV live but in a limited fashion now. Cheers Grif
