Caribbean Paradise

This something I wrote over the past two weeks.  I'm obviously thinking of retirement and my wife (and I too) loves the Caribbean, so here is a little wishful thinking.

Mix comments welcome.  Enjoy - Daryl

Caribbean Paradise

The sun rises on our little bungalow
There’s a sea breeze blowin’ through an open window
We leave our bed but take our time
The livin’s easy and were feelin’ fine

Eat our breakfast on the patio
Walk to the beach ‘cause it’s not far to go
We lay in the shade of an old palm tree
And watch the sails out on the sea

We’re drinkin’ pina coladas and it’s not yet noon
We’ll switch to shots of tequila soon
Margaritas with Jamaican rum
We dance to the sound of those steel drums

Chorus:
Our friends up north in the ice and snow
They all wish that they could go to our
Caribbean Paradise

The sun is hot but the water’s cool
The sea is bluer than a swimin’ pool
This Shangri-la were livin’ on
We all agree is No Problem Mon

Eatin’ conch fritters and key lime pie
Mango salsa on fish and fries
I’m so hungry I could eat a whale
Pass me another lobster tail

We lay on the sand and take a nap in the sun
It’s a lot of work havin’ so much fun
Don’t have a job. There’s nothing we gotta do
We aint got much but we sure gotta view

            Chorus:

We don’t read the paper or watch the news
We found ourselves and we lost the blues
Don’t wear a suit   Don’t wear a tie
Don’t have a job but I’m a happy guy

The bands’ still playin’ as the sun sets low
We’ll stay out late ‘cause we’ve no place to go
Life is good on this spot of sand
Tomorrow we can do it all again

Aha! You went and changed the lyrics around and moved the chorus on us. You sneaky guy, you!

Lovely song and production. Very smooth guit-pickin' as usual.

Very nice. Small crit: the panning on the percussion on the left feels a bit to extreme. Just a personal preference I'm sure.

Tim - Thanks for compliment and the suggestion.

Scotty- Thanks and thanks for pointing out the typo.

bapu - You probably right on the panning, I've always tended to pan my congas left for some reason.

The lyrics on this tune really hit home for my wife and me and I can't want (36 more weeks) to be retired and my life will be my own for the first time in my life.  No responsibilites and no one to make demands of my time, except my wife, but that's OK because we have a lot of the same interests.

I didn't know what to expect from the title.  Nice a twist on the country theme that I have been hearing from you latley.

This is really nice, laid back, the mix is beautiful.

I can't really say much else because it's a really good job.

    Peace Ben

Darn you, Daryl.  Those lyrics really are fantastic and make me want to get away so bad.  This is truly a lovely song and performance.  You manage to get the best guitar tones, consistently, and are an inspiration to duffers like me.  Now all you need are some steel drums in the background, and I'll be on the next flight south.

    All the best,

Id be very proud of this Daryl, the song intention was nailed. The choice of instruments and sounds are perfect. Vox well sung and laid back (harmonies simple and good too). This would easily hold its own as a carribean playlist anywhere. Congas a little too much panned, but I do like the to the side a little.

Lobster Tails , dang Daryl how did you know thats my favorite seafood .
This tune really captures enjoying a goodtime in the middle of nowhere on a beach , where swimming for a Lobster tail is knee deep almost off the island beach .
I can feel the breeze Daryl this one sounds great , I really like this one .

Everyone I ever spoke to who has retired says exactly that !

Everything sounds as it should with just enough flavour to evoke the islands, without it feeling too contrived. Would maybe bring the congas in a little more, but that's about it.

Thanks all.  There seems to be a concensus that the congas are too far left, I can accept that, it must be true as I do have the quite far to the left and I will bring them back.

Lynn - There are steel drums in two places in the song, most promiently in the verse that mentions steel drums.

Paulo, I agree I hear that all the time but it's because the poor saps let eveyrone take advantage of them because they figure they dont' have anything to do.  I will not suffer from that as I'm shallow and selfish and I itend to trout fish and play music... all the time.

No poor sap here, but I think you will find someone else has plans for you.  I hope your dream comes true.

    Hey Daryl,

This sounds fantastic -- just the right amount of everything in the mix -- from the very first second of the song the reverb and mix sounds very smooth.  The sound of the guitar and your playing is great.  Very nice.
