So, I am stumped. I want to use the EQ settings on another track, but I cannot figger how to only import the EQ settings without replacing all modules. Special handshake?

In console view, just ctrl + drag the Mini-EQ plot from source track to destination track

No problem. It's just a shame you can't do this with other PC modules, instead you have a to save as a preset and then load said preset into your dest. track.

'Tis a bit annoying about the lack of consistancy throughtout the current version. I should be able to save the settings for all PC modules, and load as needed. Otherwise I will be saving a billion presets. And hoping I remember,... And: where are these presets really saved? And how do I included them in a backup. Sure would be nice to have an actual project backup utility that included ALLLLLL bits of the project: presets, samples, loops,....

That should be included when saving a project including all media - the copy audio with project in the save as dialogue. Maybe next version? Or it's time for a feature request

Wow, good question as I've been wondering the same thing. Good to know it can be done!

John ProjectM That should be included when saving a project including all media - the copy audio with project in the save as dialogue. Maybe next version? Or it's time for a feature request It does already with save as. true But my reply was with regards to jm24's question of where presets for Pro Channel is stored and that there should be a way to back up all details of a project, including - as I understand it - the individual presets for different parts for a project. Save (in any way we have it now) saves the Audio Folder and a project file and the project file (.cwp) includes absolutely everything, from Pro Channel presets and settings to VST presets and setting but they are tucked away in the project file. Or am I missing something? The preset files are stored in a preset folder somewhere else, which isn't always easy to find. What would have been cool, and highly usefull, and probably would be what jm24 is suggesting, is that when you do a Save As and select Copy All Audio or whatever to a new location, not only would Sonar save the .cwp file and the audio folder without the unused audio (or with) but also made a folder where it stored presets used in the Pro Channel (if any) and perhaps also things like Track Templates and so forth. As it is now we have to open up the saved and backed up project, save the preset to a different location where we want it stored or you have to dig around in a folder somewhere where the presets are stored. If you save a lot of presets in specific projects that you want to use on other projects, but for some reason isn't in the default preset folder, it can be a bit messy. What if your configuration changes, you loose your presets or whatever might happen 5 years down the line when you want to open an old project or use a preset and sound from a different song that you've backed up to a DVD or something. Opening old cwp. files to store presets and track templates again is cumbersome - although not impossible - but if all those little bits were stored in a back up folder in your project back ups it would be a matter of draging and droping the neccesary presets into your new project. Less time being a files librarian and more time making music Instead of having this in a back up utility, it would be conventient and relatively fool proof if this happened in one swell swoop when you're already backing up. It would be really cool is all I'm saying

I don't think the picture you're painting is that black to be honest. When a project is saved, all the Pro Channel setting are stored along with it, irrespective of whether or not these settings are also saved as a preset. Presets are only really useful when you want to import them into a new project, or track. If you delete your entire preset list, what's going to happen when you open up a project referencing them? Nothing - the project doesn't reference the preset state, just the Pro Channel state

Aah, maybe I didn't properly explain what I was thinking - and I thought I was being throrough I didn't intend for it to be a "black picture" and I'm not saying you're neccesary loosing anything. All I'm saying, really, is that if the actual preset files were stored on it's own when you're doing a back up of a project to keep all it's little details for generations to come, why not store whatever presets used in the project in it's own folder so if you sometime in the future would need the preset and not the actual project they are used in, you could pick them up from the preset folder in the backed up preset folder quickly and easily. And why this would be cool is because I know that what is in my preset folder today may not be there next year and I know that is a trend for many.

I can see the potential benefit of this Marius, but being the practical-minded type, I have a Windows Shortcut pointing to my existing Pc Presets folder. This gets backed up regularly as part of my backup routine, so I have several versions, going back at least 18 months.

Which is good too I keep thinking I have a killer routine for backing up and I've never lost anything. But preset managing and all that is a little mindbogling in Sonar. I clear my harddrives of big projects all the time and every now and again I have to do some serious work to find a preset. This could be implemented differently and I don't think a preset folder - only available when doing a "back up" save for storing projects elsewhere would bother anyone. I think it's a good idea and that dm24 was on to something It's more an issue with organizing rather than avoiding loosing anything.
