Well, it's not like you really need a "special day" to celebrate with tequila.......on the contrary, it usually happens that the celebration ends prematurely not much longer after the tequila begins.

I wrote something stupid like, "how to drink tequila," in several steps..  quite possibly twelve..  but I don't remember exactly what I was saying now...   incidentally, I could go for a tequila shot right now..  but I'm on my tenth cup of coffee.... instead..  :-(

ah..  the joys of being a musician..  quite an easy life imho..

It's funny or maybe not so funny that all it takes is one bad experience with tequila to remind yourself not to go through that same experience again.
At least, that's what happened to me about 20 yrs ago on a "boys night out" which ended with 13 shots of tequila in about 45 min. Needless to say, the hangover lasted 4 days and I've NEVER even attempted 1/2 that amount since then.

Tequila is very low on my list of favorite types of alcohol.  I'll be out tonight, but not having any of it!

I have a tequila story..... oh boy do I have a tequila story.....

but if you have ever drank tequila straight from the bottle....I'll bet you have one too.

I was about 18 at the time and stupid.

Started out innocently enough.... a cool October afternoon, and an invite to a bachelor party from my neighbor Paul. A band I was jamming with somehow or another got the wedding gig and of course that was the next day.  So Paul and Eddie and me decided to go. Eddie makes a liquor store run and returns in a bit with a bottle of tequila.

After some discussion, it was decided that it would be better to walk to the party as opposed to driving to the party. Smartest decision of the night...right there.  It was about 3 miles away. So we started walking...with the bottle.... 3 miles to go.

Tequila straight.... no chaser. Dumbest decision of the night...right there. After the first good swallow, all the pain receptors and nerve endings are pretty much deadened to the taste/burn/pain. No one would pick us up.... 3 long haired ragged looking folk walking and thumbing down the road. Imagine that!

By the time we got to the White Horse Pike, it was dark, the bottle was about half gone and it was getting colder. We walked the road behind the car wash and no sooner had we started on that short cut through than then this stoner in a VW bug pulls up and asks if we have any papers.  I said yes and gave him some TOPS. He was so greatful that he gave us a handful of maryjane.  We ducked into the woods, rolled it up passed it around and emerged a few minutes later (at least we think it was only a few minutes) with a big ole illegal smile.  We walked the rest of the distance to the party and crossed the WHP at night... in our condition, and managed not to get run over.

We arrived and the last thing I do remember is passing out and loosing the remnants of my dinner... all over me, the floor and who knows what else. They drug my out the door, down the steps and left me there.... on the front lawn to sleep or die..... I really didn't care at that point.

I recall brief and fleeting episodes of consciousness until Paul, at the end of the night came to collect me and help me get cleaned up a bit. (Paul was a good friend)  Someone drove us home.

Upon arriving at home, I stumbled in ...do not recall the time..... but headed straight to the bathroom to worship at the porcelain alter for a while. I heard " Oh look at you...you are a disgusting mess" and turned to see my mom standing there demanding to know what was going on.  Not a conversation I was in any condition to handle in any sort of intelligent manner. I told her to see me in the morning and I would answer her questions.

I opened my eyes to see my mom standing in the doorway..... "well buster...start talking"

It took all day to get up and around and be able to stand..... without falling over. I showered and washed my hair several times...... The band came over and we loaded the gear to head to the wedding.  I did not want to see or smell food or drink but.... it was a wedding in NJ..... that's what we do..... It was not a pleasant affair for me. Dry heaves have a way of ruining your day.....

That hangover lasted 3 days before I felt like my normal self again. I don't believe I have ever been that toasted on anything since. I didn't drink tequila for a very long time after that...and most certainly not half a bottle straight.

A story somewhat similar to mine. In my case though, it cured me till this day. Aside the odd beer and glass of wine, I don't drink.

Yeah.... that did cure me for a while.... it wasn't until I got into my twenties that I tried that again....this time without the tequila or the mom..... pretty much the same results otherwise.

now..... nope.... I try to keep from seeing how blind I can get. I don't even like a serious buzz anymore.

    Here's my tequila story.

Someday, whenever I hit upon some top ten material, I plan on getting drunk out of my skull by ingesting the content of this fellow...

(I know, not nearly enough to get me drunk, but I never said I could come up w/ top ten material either...)

Until then, it just sits there and looks cool. That's how I like my tequilla.... :P
