Recharged

Completely recorded in Sonar X1 Producer and mixed and mastered in Producer Expanded after the upgrade, is the first of several new tracks I'm completing post production on at this time. It's a rocker, let me know what you think... http://soundcloud.com/saltpanic/recharged

You're bouncing off the ceiling with your levels. As for the song, it comes across as some continuous monotonous grind with some random cheesy guitar on top. Make the song tell a story by introducing some changes here and there.

I liked it. I think I liked the grind of the rhythm guitar the most.

The kick seemed louder than any other instrument, and that was on my laptop... I'll bet you could turn it down a lot and it would still sound as big and bad... especially on some real speakers. :-)

    best,

The guitars really have that deep grind that defines this genre.  As for the drums, some like it hot, and some like it cold.  Will you be adding more to this, or is this the final product?  As it stands now, I think it's a little lonely.

    All the best,

Thanks for the replies and feedback.  Pistolpete, I really don't think calling what I created cheesy is constructive.  There are changes, it's called the bridge about halfway through - that was my intention to create what I did.  If you don't like the genre, that's fine, but to call my creation monotonous and cheesy is a bit inappropriate.  I was really looking for input as to production as I am really trying to learn.
Mike, thanks for the input on the kick drum levels; I'll double check that.  I listened to it on many different sources, but I may have missed that.  Lynn, what do you feel was missing?  Is it vocals?  It was meant to be just an instrumental with simple guitar tracks and hopefully some rippin' leads.  Could there be anything else missing, like another guitar part?  Not all of my songs sound like this - this one is kind of the outlier.:)

How's the mixing and mastering?  The last project I did had a lot of harshness and too much compression.  See http://forum.cakewalk.com/tm.aspx?m=2607899

I am paying a lot more attention to the mixes and cleaning them up, especially with the electric guitar parts.  I am trying to lay off the compression and adding more db with tape sat and the concrete limiter.  Thanks again!

Hey Jason welcome to the community, thanks for sharing.  Don't listen to deadbeat Pete he really is an arse who just wants to hurt people.

Ok the track is interesting but it needs to go somewhere, everything is all here.  The playing is excellent, the mix is almost spot on.  It has for me a little too much energy in the low-mids but meh thats just my subjective opinon.

Def you need something within the track to keep the listener interested would be my suggestion.

But as I say, it's all here, just needs to be refined.

    Peace Ben
