FNG needs help. recording stops after metronome (2 bars)

ok so i have the HS Xl version 7, i finally tried it after about 2 years of having it, i was using studio one and truth be told, it did exactly what i needed except giving me the option of using third party plug ins, so i decided to use HS. Anyways, i had a new track and when i arm record, it stops recording after the metronome which is 2 bars, ive tried deleting the track and adding a new one but id does the same thing. help anyone? llike i said im just a newbie and need all the help i can get, thanks.

Are you using the audio metronome or the MIDI metronome?
What operating system are you using?
Is it a 64-bit operating system?
What sound card or audio interface are you using?
Are you using a USB microphone?
What Driver Mode are you using?

What do you mean by "the recording stops after metronome/2 bars"?
Do you mean you hear the count-in and then nothing happens? So the recording does not start at all? How does it stop - does the cursor stop moving, or does the cursor keep moving but nothing gets recorded?

Do you have metronome enabled both for playback and recording? You don't accidentally press "Play" to start recording on the armed track, do you? (R is the right one).

Make sure you don't have any "Punch recording" active.

    Kalle,
hi, so like i said, im a new guy when it comes to using sonar to record so please bare with me.
so this is the thing: i can add a track and begin recording, and it does record, but it stops abruptly. the number of measures it takes to stop recording vaires, sometimes after 4 measures, sometimes it takes 8. i extend the markers to say... 15 measures on the time line, but it only records a fraction of that, maybe 10  measures. any ideas? i have attached the specs to the gear i am using so i would appriciate any help. thanks

What markers? Did you insert markers or were they already there?

Are you using the audio metronome or the MIDI metronome?
What operating system are you using?
Is it a 64-bit operating system?
What sound card or audio interface are you using?
Are you using a USB microphone?
What Driver Mode are you using?
The answers to these questions will help us help you.

OK, but you have to tell us about your computer and soundcard if you want help. I don't see any specs attached to your other post.

Are you getting a message that says "Dropout"? If your computer is not powerful enough, it may not be able to handle Sonar.

Hi Mario - Sounds very odd to me and I wonder if this is an HS Settings issue rather than a computer system issue. Just a thought but perhaps you have inadvertently clicked something. Have a look at the box at the top of the screen that contains the play controls, tempo and so forth. In the right side of that box are six small icons. Are any highlighted? These relate to Punch record, Loop, ACT and so forth (I never use them so please don't ask me what they mean!). It could be that you have one set. If one is highlighted, just click it to unset it.

    Dave,
Sorry about not attaching specs on my signature, it is fixed now.
Specs: PC, Vista7,64 bit op system, 7750 Dual Core Processor 2.70 GHz, GB RAM, Sonar Home Studio7, Audio USB interface, , EZDrummer and DFH.
now here is the thing: like i said, it just stops recording, no message or anything. the time just stops as easy as it began.
im wondering if there is a setting somewhere that puts a limit on the number of measures to record. I know it is not to "auto punch" i know how to use that. i have njo idea what it is, it just stops working. any ideas?

Sounds like it may be a latency issue as it is stopping in different places, unless of course every time it stops exactly at the beginning of a measure. Check your Options>Audio>Advanced settings tab to see which mode your drivers are in, MMC being the least desireable, WDM being better and ASIO being the best. You might want to check the Options>Audio>Drivers tab and make sure you don't have two audio interfaces showing if you have onboard audio as well as the USB interface. If necessary, try adjusting the buffer size in Options>Audio>General by moving the slider to the right and be sure the USB interface is listed as being the playback and record timing master. If you have a USB and onboard audio as well and both are enabled then sometimes the system will try to use the onboard audio as the timng master and can mess things up. You might want to post the audio driver settings you are using and the reported latency as this may help others assist you.

What is Vista7? No such thing. What is the audio USB interface?
