CJ they work well with X1? I read about some driver issue but I think they resolved it. VS700 is out. Way to expensive for a controller and I don't like the idea that it can't be used for any other DAW.

You asked what controller is best for SONAR.  You didn't ask what was the best controller for X1 that you could also use w/ other daws or within a price range.

Sorry.  Having used the vs700 for a while I can say it fits SONAR like a glove, which it should.  Even over a short period available I got fast w/ it, almost like using an analog desk w/ every knob having a distinct job.  Much better than some hobbled-together system where you are having to think before you reach, then think again before touching.

Yea I can understand that, if I had the extra loot for it I'd jump right in because the idea of it being made specifically for sonar is of course nice but ya know

I think you will find that it will work with most DAW software it is just better integrated with SONAR.

Because the VS-700 is designed to work with Sonar, you will be able to do more on the console and spend less time clicking the mouse on the screen. Not saying it's the only way to go, but it is really good and consolidates controller, interface, and software.

Thought you first meant a keyboard controller but yeah the VS-700 is the Sonar controller that everyone here on this forum would love to have if they had $2500 to spare. It's a marriage of hardware and software similar to Maschine and its software.

You guys are going to think I'm crazy but the AKAI APC 40, once I got it programmed the way I wanted was afwul good.  I had 8 different faders and rotaries... and I was able to program mute, solo, write into the corresponding channels.  I even had decent control over my plugins. and excellent transport.  I was a pushover and allowed my son to liberate it from me when he showed some real interest in it.  Right now I use an Maudio Axiom 49 and I don't dislike it but its not the same.

Anybody that reads over these, I'd love to hear some thoughts on BCR 2000 (rotaries).

    Dell XPS Studio / Core I-7 920 / 8GB DDR-3/  Windows 7/ 2-1 Tb SATA hd.  SONAR X3b Producer / Axiom49 (2nd Gen)/ Profire 2626 / ProTools 11

It seems like a toss up. Either the Univ. Pro or Artist mix. Considering all things, compatibility, function, etc which one would you guys go for?

There are things to consider. I would not hesitate to recommend the MC. Its the CS standard. it works with all DAWs and some non DAW programs. Mine is the first version and has not let me down in all these years.

If you want cross DAW usage its the one to get. On the other hand the VS700 is meant for Sonar and has the tightest integration of any CS for Sonar.

I don't like the audio and CS being in the same box but that is just me.

The VS700 can be used with other DAWs but as a MC.

I think one has to look at what each offers and go with the one that meets ones needs best.

There are many to choose from and some that could be gotten from the used market. Some are no longer being produced but they still work.

I would look around and pick what is the one I find the best for my own needs. No one can say this particular one is the only one worth getting. No matter which on it is.

    You have a choice.

John are you saying the VS700 cannot be used as an audio interface in other daws as well as a control surface?

No just the opposite. It has that built in. The MC is only a CS.

Cool John, thanks. I don't see many used 700's out there but new it just seems over priced. I think MC is the candidate.
