vs100 not working with sonar 8.5 producer

so i updated the v studio 100 (1.50), got the latest drivers from the cakewalk site and i'm using sonar 8.5.3.  when i plug it into the computer, i'm able to get audio for everything but sonar.  i can watch you tube clips and so on.  in sonar, i can set it as an act controller (no vs100 profile) and a midi i/o, but i cannot change the audio settings to the vs100.  

in the general tab, there are no vs100 options available.  under the advanced tab, you can select the vs100 as device, but that doesn't change anything.  it'll be back to the other device when i open the tab again.  under the drivers tab, all vs100 options are greyed out and cannot be clicked.

if that weren't enough, it isn't able to control anything either.  sonar sees it, but nothing does anything.  nothing appears on the vs100's screen, just the blank act/trk panel.

also worth noting is that windows doesn't see the vs100 either.  it doesn't appear in the computer section, where all the other things would, like external hard drives, your phone and whatnot.  so i can't even drag my wav files out of the vs100 and into sonar.  i'm using win7, home, 64-bit.

this has taken up hours of my time, finding drivers and updates and such, but nothing is getting it done.  ideas?  i really need this to work and am grateful for any insights you might have.  thanks!
