Are you talking about a direct input from a guitar/keyboard, or a mic? I don't know the equipment in question.
I ask because a lot of times people over-blow mics even though the metered input on the interface or console is low. This can be frustrating if you don't know where the issue is. For most condenser mics with most singers, I need about a -10 db pad. (Many mics have a pad switch on the actual mic.)
If this doesn't apply to you, sorry, but it may help others. It can blow your mind to see low levels on the meter and hear distortion coming back.
