DEAD OR ALIVE New song with an unusal request.
Due to a glitch in Sonar and my own stupidity, I lost both the original and backup .cwp files for this song. So I cannot edit it in any way, save doing it all over from scratch. Fortunately I had burned a near final copy before the fiasco. I would appreciate any mix suggestions that I could do with just EQ to the total mix. I can load the .wav file into a new project and use Ozone or some other plug in to fine tune the total mix. So, If you any suggestions there, I would appreciate it. Thanks. Hopefully it's not too bad as is. Daryl Dead or Alive http://www.soundclick.com/bands/page_songInfo.cfm?bandID=582907&songID=11798894 Dead or Alive You’re a gambler and a drifter You’re man all alone You never had a family You never had a home You were just a man Not a man on the run You wanted to live But not by the gun It was all a mistake But they couldn’t see They wouldn’t listen They wouldn’t believe They need to hang somebody And they don’t care who Someone is guilty It might as well be you Chorus: Dead or Alive Dead or Alive Now you’re wanted Dead or Alive You wanted a drink A place to lay your head You didn’t hurt anyone Or want anyone dead You ordered the coffee And the special today Didn’t plan to linger Didn’t plan to stay A shot rang out And somebody fell Somebody screamed And somebody yelled You were in the wrong place At the wrong time Now Your Life’s on the Line Chorus: You live your life From day to day The price to relax Is too high to pay You’re under cover You’re in disguise Endure the pain Endure the lies You’re movin’ fast And layin’ low Don’t stay too long Don’t you move too slow You were in the wrong place At the wrong time Now Your Life’s on the Line Chorus:

Very cool tune Daryl... look in your audio folder... maybe you can reconstruct your .cwp from your audio files... good luck... great lyrics...

Frank, I wouldn't know how to put it all together. I can almost imagine it would be easier to do it all over again, but... you can imagine how much I would hate to repeat all that. Thanks glad you like the tune. Daryl

Daryl, I'm going to go out on a limb here, but it sounds so good on my system that I would leave it alone. It's a terrific song, and your performances and production are top notch, as usual. Better ears than mine may be able to offer suggestions, but I wouldn't sweat this.

I'm kinda with Lynn - I don't think I'd mess with it even if you still had the session! It sounds great. I know one of my problems is I beat a project to death trying to perfect everything, when I fail to realize there's something magic in the rawness of it. I often kill that! Lol. That being said - if you really want that session back there are some excellent data recovery programs available that could possibly get them back, provided you have not written over that sector of the hard drive! Good job!

No need to edit it. Sounds fine! You could always run the master tracks through some comps, limiters and EQ boosts, cuts if you felt the need.

Very smooth. Sorry I can't add any helpful comments as I'm a newbie. A fun listen. Well done!

Is there a more prolific writer in this forum ? What are you gonna be like when you have more timeon your hands ? If you're not into reconstructing it, then I would call it done and move on personally, nothing leaping out at me eq wise.

I would redo the tune. And change the drums to a swing beat. The straight beat works against the song, which is great.

I have to agree with yoyo. The drums need a swing beat. LIke a close hi hat then one hit and ending with the open hi hat. I think the mix is to midrangy but the song is really cool!!! Well done!

Wow so many opinons. I think you have done a good job, I'm unsure about this idea of a swing beat. I think the straight beat works. The mix is good, the snare feels a little thin but I'm being picky. Personaly I would leave it alone but I know what it's like to have niggles about tunes and wanting to go back and fix things. Nice Job, Peace Ben
