57Gregy Did you get him to autograph it for you? Well, considering it looks like he passed away in '95 (according to the first line of Steve's post), I'd say that would be doubtful...

Fantastic Steve. Also look how cool he was to win a gold medal wearing his spectacles, you don't see much of that nowadays.

My housemate has some Topps Beatles trading cards she got in '64 or '65 and wanted to know if they were worth anything now. Turns out they are; about $2 each.

And if you remove the 's', 't', 'e' and the 'r' from hamster you're left with 'ham'. Beagle everyone should like that And if you remove the 'h' from ham you're left with something that Bapsi should like.

if you remove the 'h', 'e', 'd', 'm' and the 't' and rearrange the letters a bit you get 'arse' I like hamsters (in a purely platonic way)

That is really cool! None of my former teachers were ever on a trading card! Can some nice British person translate the back of that card? Obviously this card came with a pack of cigarettes, and it looks like you get 10 for 6D. Six d? What kind of price is that? Ten cigarettes for 6 pounds? Man, that can't be right.

The 'd' on my card represents the 'old' penny. The new 'metric' money system was introduced here in 1971, and the pound was divided up into 100 'new' pence. Before then, the pound was divided into 240 pennies, so that 6d (known affectionately as a 'tanner') pack of 10 cigarettes would have cost about the equivalent of 2½p in today's currency, or just under 4 cents. However, cigarettes are currently around £7.50 for a pack of twenty (of which around £5.80 is tax) - that's about $11.70.
