HD housekeeping........

No, not a new hi-def tv channel for neat freaks, but a question............

Seems to me that I have a whole load of audio on my HD that I could get rid of from various old versions of same projects.

ie. one has over 11gb in the audio folder from 7 .cwp versions

I figured the best way to sort out what was what is to make a .cwb of the final version .cwp, move it to another location, check it works, by unpacking it all in a new folder, then assuming all is well, delete the old folder with all the redundant .cwps and audio.

In this example alone I reckon I would be getting rid of about 8gb worth of junk.

Thoughts ? Pitfalls ? Easier ways ?

Nope.... that would work. Copy it over, open the project from there, close it after confirming it works and delete the original folder.

I do this all the time.... not so much the opening to check but on occasion, I will go through the current work project folder which I keep on the C drive and see what projects are old/finished and in the way..... I simply do a cut and paste them into my archive folder on the storage drive and then copy that folder in it's entirety to my external storage drive so I end up with 2 folders on 2 different drives with my projects. Redundant back up.

Some are copied as bundles but I also work a lot with the project files and copying them works well too.

I tend to do this maybe 2x a year, to simply clean up the current projects folders to make it easier to find things.

BTW: I have had the need to re-open some of the older "moved" projects from time to time and they have all opened perfectly from their new locations.

ADD: I have copied bundle files out in a rather old version of cakewalk (CWP8) and burned them to CD.... a few years later, I was not able to open several of them. "Disk corrupted" was the message.  Bundles get zipped or packed and must be unpacked again if I understand correctly..... so I started simply saving the folders and leaving them all in the project format with the accompanying audio folders.....just like cake saves the projects normally.
