Roland's R-Mix
Has anyone used this? I would not use it to add FX or move things around, but it looks like a pretty sweet interface to "see" your music? And potentially A/B it with something you're trying to mimic.

I have not used it, but just to be sure, you do realize it's going to be included with the x2 upgrade, right?

Interesting... I'm about to go from 8.3 pro to "X'... On a new system. X2, do I have to get pro? I don't need a lot of the things that come w/pro.

There is a thread already going on about it on other forum http://forum.cakewalk.com/tm.aspx?m=2630495&mpage=1 I don't think we know yet if it's in Essentials, Studio and Producer. It probably won't be in Essentials I'd guess as it's not essential. I'd guess prob not Studio either. But I'm only guessing. Wait till November (speculatory) to find out when X2 comes out ;)

Alright, thanks. Not the first time I've been waiting w/breathless anticipation for a #2. I can only hope that it's a relief.

yeah, I don't think we know yet, but also, they're already saying there's a promotion coming soon that if you buy X1 you get X2 free. but I don't know when the promotion starts.

Yes. I have. (at work...had to go.) I think it is a great learning tool. It helps one to hear a specific part or it can, for the most part, remove that part allowing one to play with the backing tracks. I personally have no use for it in recording but thats not saying that others won't or that I may not sometime. Naturally I don't know what'll be different in the version for X2 but it's easy and kinda fun so it's cool that it's included IMO.

My cynical take: Roland had a product that wasn't selling well, so they created a stripped-down version and instructed their subsidiary to bundle it with SONAR as a form of advertisement. Sort of how Dell computers come with a bunch of useless pre-installed crapware. My less-cynical take: Cakewalk needed something no competitor had, so they went to the parent company and asked "what's the coolest, most unique thing you've got?" Let us put it into our next version so we can have a unique product differentiator. Granted, no one's asked for it, nobody's even sure what to do with it, but Studio One, Ableton, Cubase and Reaper don't have it! Why they didn't ask for an updated V-Vocal (also a Roland product) instead is a mystery.
All else is in doubt, so this is the truth I cling to. My Stuff
