last computer upgrade?

seems like it was an 18-24 month proposition before i went i7.  Current sys:
2.8GHz i7
12 GB Ram
7+disk storage on 5 drives
UAD 2 quad
2 RME FF800s
2 28" monitors

my system for some time now.  lke 3+ years it seems.

you?  Is the biannual upgrade cycle a thing of the past?

I did buy the ADK 9000 laptop exactly one year ago today.

    I7 960 3.2GHz
    6GB Ram
    3x 750GB hard drives
    17" monitor
    UAD Laptop Solo

The DAW was built about 15-16 months ago:
    I7 2600K
    16GB RAM
    1 500GB OS, 2x 1TB samples & Projects drives
Still on that old 30" Dell Monitor
Upgraded to RME Fireface UFX in Feb of this year
    2x UAD-2 Quad

Back when I was an over well paid computer consultant I used to get a new box often (it was a write-off so why not?).

About five months ago I finally upgraded from two seven year-old boxes-of-rocks to an i5 with 12 GB of RAM plus 5 TB of disk space.  Someday I'll need to get a completely new and even better box so I can upgrade to X1, X1a, X1b, X1c, X1d, X2, X2a, or whatever update they're on at that time...

I need a new DAW PC. Basically more hard drive space. I'm using 50% of my 160GB C drive with just 8.5.3 Producer and all the normal synths that come with. Not enough room left for my taste to put X1-X2 on the drive and have room for current projects.
The Q6600 2.8khz 4 core with 4Gb of ram is outdated now. It still works like a charm when the user isn't screwing it up. The old black box is noisey though, the mics can hear it. I'd like to get a custom built quiet monster with a 750 Gb C drive, 8 cores, 8Gb of ram, etc. $$$$

I think you'll find that it's hard to find drives that small Craig.  3 TB's are starting to become common, 1 TB's are getting difficult to locate.  That's the GOOD part of things now-a-days!  Plus 8 GB of RAM isn't that much any more.

Ya see? Even what I want is outdated already.

I get what I need out of this old bugger.........................................

I am not upgrading til this thing dies.

I know this set up forward and backward, it never glitches ,bugs, flickers or jitters.

I'd rather buy guitars and play with them/work on 'em etc.................

Than buy/upgrade pc's and software , heck by the time most guys get upgraded updated and debugged, they are thinking about the next new thing.

In the mean time I've bought and sold and tinkered with 10 -15 cool guitars....

P.S......... you should see my back up system............
    One old ass....AMD Duron 1200 Thundbird Overclocked,2gigs ram,2-80g IDE's,48Xburner,1-AP2496,15"LCD..................

Grandpa still gets 'er up when need be
