One month before Vegas...

September 4th we should arrive in Vegas. For 2 years - minimum. More likely 5 or 7. Or more, who knows...

There's something sad in the air this summer in NY, because we know it's the last time we actually live here. We'll probably come back, but not for such extended periods of time. We love this place w/ all our hearts and got used to it in a wink. True New Yorkers at heart - we b!tch against tourists and cabs and all, but we'd stay here forever. Even if it's way too hot.

I'm looking forward to our steady schedule and some cool gigs for myself in Vegas, at last, plus an opportunity to finally get back to a proper working environment when we buy the house next spring. But a bit like Moscow stayed in my heart, NYC will always be w/ me. This could be home.

Anyway, I was sitting here, resting my hears after a long session and trying to take it all in - I finally took my wife's word for it and turned everything around in what used to be the living room and made it MY room. For a mix engineer, no doubt this'd be a nightmare, but I'm not doing any serious mixing on that set up anyway, and, for me, as a songwriter, that's probably the coolest place I could land (this or a mountain top in China). Oh yeah, and when the full moon rises, man, it IS Gotham. :P

If you think New York gets hot, just wait until you get to Vegas!  I can't stand heat (which is why I live in the Pacific Northwest even though we had a rare hot day today of 97 F), but once I was in Vegas and it was 129 outside...  It felt like opening an oven door if you went out.  Fortunately, I could stay inside the hotel most of the time - but no way would I want to live there!

I have a friend from Boston. He went to Vegas in the summer on vacation. (This couldn't have happened to a more deserving person)... he got all dressed up in a suit to go out, stepped out onto the sidewalk and into a wad of bubblegum. It was so HOT that once he took three steps he was covered with little strings of gum, lol. It just circled up over his head as he walked and covered him. I still chuckle when I think about it. Bob was the sort of guy who could find something wrong with anything, very cynical Bostoner.

@ Rain... my cousin lives in Vegas, has for years. He worked for the PGA for years setting up tournaments. Now he offers an assortment of golf tours, not just in Vegas but all over... just in case you golf. Let me know and I'll put you in touch.

A few of the guys who lived there told me so. They also told me not to count on the fact that it's supposedly much dryer than NY (so in theory less suffocating) as a lot of people say. So that myth is busted. I guess I'll have an excuse to spend even more time in the studio. ;)

@ Julien. Thanks man! I've never played golf before but I'll let you know if I get into it.

Best to you Rain with the relocation.
Personally I'd much rather look out my window and see
the desert of Nevada than what I see from the one
in your picture. Unfortunately that may not change
much and could be worse LOL.

The weather? People adapt. It's the bills that can make
it tuff to adapt and the only way to adapt to that is for
one to be wealthy. If you have the coin...it can be very
    cool in Vegas.

    Thanks Jan. :)
First time ever I move by plane - stuff, cats and all... It does have the merit of being different.

Spacey - I understand what you mean.

I love NY but I'm sort of an extremist in my tastes.
If I'm to put up w/ life in the city, I say let's go all the way.
I've lived in places which had all the disadvantages of big cities but few advantages.
Here, at least I know I have the advantages too.

OTOH, I mentioned a house on the top of a mountain in China.
That's the place I travel to mentally when I need to re-center - you know, however the hippie/new age folks would call that...

We're not looking for anything too close to the strip in Vegas.
In fact, every house we've found interesting so far were located in quieter parts of the city.
Still not as remote as our house in Quebec, but looks pretty quiet.

Nah. We do have an urn w/ the ashes of one of them, though. I guess that would still qualify. ;)

We lost one more last week.
That's the second in a bit more than a year.
So we have 2 left here w/ us - both almost 14 years old.

So one of the first thing we plan on doing in Vegas is adopting a kitten.
And maybe a dog or two.
I'd like a couple of Dobermans or Rottweilers.
    Or Boxers.

And one of those wiener dogs - you can't be depressed when you have one of these around...

    Philz now lives in Henderson.

    He says it's HOT!!!!!

I believe him. I used to frequent the area when I had a client out there. No more for this bad boy. 85 is too dang hot for me.

Oh, BTW, I wish you all the best on the move.

Yeah - remember I come from up north - 68 degrees is as hot as any place should get as far as I'm concerned. 59 would be ideal. I like spring and fall in Canada. That's my kind of climate.

Looking at the weather reports in Vegas right now and all I can say is I'll miss winter in Moscow. lol

I like your setup there Rain. Looks like a good place to put together some good tunes.

It's a shame that you are going away in a month and right now I am only a little over 2 1/2 hours away from NY. I don't expect to be out there but if you want to get out of there for awhile let me know.I could show you PA dutch country.

Hey who is the little guy in top of your left speaker? Looks a little thin for a Budda.

(Minor trivia...  The real Budda was actually a fairly skinny guy who didn't want his image to be used for religious reasons. )

Craig, you mean the real Budda was skinny? Boy talk about misrepresentation. I thought I spotted him several times this past week or at least what his statue looks like. Kind of like Elvis I guess.Oh well...

The bottle is cool looking Rain, look like maybe they also did some shaping on it.Looks as if you are well stocked on guitar picks too :)

I haven't studied Buddhism half as much as Abrahamic religions and some other oriental philosophies but according to the legend, Buddah, like many wisemen and prophets, starved himself for 40-ish day (can't remember the details).

I don't think anyone would have managed to put on much weight if they did what he preached.

Being overwight was certainly NOT part of the philosophy.  Unfortunately, all religions love symbolism so the non-likeness was created and promoted.  Personally, I think the statues look cool.  Just seeing that little fat guy smiling away makes me smile too.

(The symbol looks good on the amps with the same name as well! )
