The new floor is in...

We had this room and a utility room done "at-the-same-time".

Tomorrow will be 2 weeks without hot water or laundry. :-)

I can move the music making stuff into the new room... or do the finish carpentry. I think I'll do the carpentry step by step over the next month or two.

Our Floor person is a great guy... he cut up a whole bunch of 18x18 porcelain tile into the design I laid out. We ruined one brand new diamond bade and gave a second one a good workout on my wet saw. That porcelain is hard... harder than some rocks.

Anyways. Step by Step. I want to get the carpentry done and then start getting serious about sound treatment.

best regards,
mike

    Thanks everyone!

Yes Craig, I just made up a design using increments of 6" on a graph/grid. We did the utility room similarly.

At first the installer thought it would be a repeating pattern but later he realized it's all just block by block with no planned repetition.

I think the pattern helps with the contemporary cottage theme we are going for.

We're gong to use 1/4 sawn pine, which I selected and bought yesterday for all the trim work.

    best regards,

    Brilliant!!

I like that we can spill popcorn all over it and it'll clean right up. Because of the floor color we'll not miss a piece.

    Very cool.

My wife and I decided to build on a few years (well slightly longer now) ago. To save money and keep sub-contractor costs low, I opted to do many of the sub trades myself. Painting, trim carpentry, plumbing, electrical, and tile. I left the framing, roof, insulation, sheetrock and foundation to the experts.

I bought the tools,  saws and the diamond blades to cut the tile. then I set about doing the work. It was hard work to say the least, but with research and checking out some tile laying training at Lowes, I got the info I needed to do a bang up job. And saved a ton of money in the process. My best guess on actual savings was between $20k to $25k saved in labor and material markups. It is a pleasure to show off the house to friends and know that I did much of that work myself.

Looks like you did a most excellent job, and its something you can certainly be proud to show off.

For the same reason you don't put two bookends on the same side.  It should be called the Weekends then, ya?
