Vocalists... Have you had your wisdom teeth taken out? Did it affect the way you sing?

So although they aren't bothering me in any way the dentist wants to yank them. I'm hesitant because I'm not sure if it will effect my enunciation after. I sing stuff that requires a lot of enunciation at hi speeds. Any tales to share? Hope you're all having an awesome day.

Heh... well considering the tracks I sent you last time I'm sure you may be questioning why I'm calling myself a "vocalist". I been gettin' the pipes moving again since then though. It was a helpful kick in the arse. Wait... are we allowed to say "arse" on here? ;-p

I have had 2 of my wisdom teeth removed, but not the other 2.  however, they were removed years ago when I wasn't singing (I didn't sing except in the shower for many years between age 18 and 35).  so I have no comparison of before and after because I don't remember.

but I have a feeling it will be awkward at first but that you will get used to it and adjust.  probably won't take that long to adjust.  month?  depends on the person I'm sure.

Hiya, Beagle. I'm thinking I'd better leave these buggers in until I get the bulk of any vocal tracks I've been meaning to get on "tape" recorded. It would suck to have to relearn everything and really they don't bother me anymore. I've probably got a dozen hours of stuff I want to get down now that I actually have the means to. Cheers.

Got all 4 done the same day against the oral surgeons advice. Tough couple of days, but at the time I wanted it over all at once. I think it depends on the individual's mouth, tongue, throat shape and the technique and talent involved. I think it helped me personally, especially in performing live. I was able to down a beer between songs much easier without those big choppers blocking the flow.

Ha! That elicited the rare "in real life" Beepster giggle. I hadn't considered the ease of beer intake factor. You have given me much to think about. ;-)

I have different dentures to cope with a wide range of tones to suit various genres.

They ensure I'm equally bad in all of them.

I never had bottom wisdom teeth.... and had the top 2 removed.... I never really paid any attention to the difference in sound of my singing.

I do suspect that the removal of the rear teeth will not have as large affect on your singing as having the front 2 removed....

Loothing the front oneth workth better than any de-etha.

@guitarhacker... Fortunately no front teeth need extraction... which was actually a major concern for me. Those teeth have taken a LOT of abuse in many forms. That was a real relief.

Beep, I've had all four of mine removed... I don't recall any difference at all except that I no longer had bits of tooth randomly falling apart in my mouth.
Seriously.  Get them OUT.  Now.  I just nursed my 51 year old husband through the ordeal, and it seems it only gets more difficult with age.  I've idea how old you are but we're going on two weeks here, and he's still taking Motrin 800.

And I'd like to note that I am considerably younger than my husband. A vain statement, maybe, but true.  :)

I had all 4 of mine removed while in the Air Force. They weren't causing problems, although 3 of them were impacted, but the dentist said they would cause problems later if I left them in.
Plus, extraction was free, courtesy of the USAF.
I've had a lot of teeth removed since then, and it does seem that it changed to tone of my voice, but didn't make it more difficult to sing (just more difficult to listen to ).

@julibee... Noted. That's brutal and sorry you had to go through that. When they were coming in I was terrified they were going to destroy my mouth (and I did not have insurance back then so it made it extra scary). Fortunately after a year they chilled out. If they were currently causing any problem I'd have them yanked in a second but these are actually very healthy wisdom teeth aside from the bottom ones being impacted. These toofs are quite strong (as are all my teeth surprisingly) and they are BIG. I swear looking at the x-ray I'm surprised I'm not gagging on the roots so I imagine it's gonna be a real... uh... experience when they come out. When I asked the dentist what kind of problems might arise from leaving them in the answer was "Oh, uh food can get stuck in there" which doesn't bother me that much. I just clean it out and have been for years. The other was "Oh, they might cause a cavity grinding up against the molars". Well they are already fully grown and aside from some pain when they came in haven't caused me any issues. I WILL have them taken out at some point but I'm just kind of thinking it'd be better to leave well enough alone until I'm done with some albums and have a bit more time and sanity to convalesce. Also I sadly do not have a wife to take care of my sorry butt. ;-)

@Gregy... Well there's the other side of the coin. Will the money be there later on to have it done? That's the only real reason I'm considering it. I'm gonna get all the other work done first and see what kind of job they do on that before letting them go ape balls on my big ole smarty toofs. Which is another problem... I can't afford to lose any wisdom. Even if it is only in pulp and enamel form.

I had mine removed in the lower jaw and although I'm mostly just screaming my head off as a vocalist (heavy metal <3) all I experienced was that my articulation got slightly better. But the first couple of days were hell! Hell I tella ya! But as soon as the pains stoped and the meds didn't it was all good
